Blu wrapped this up for the whole year and that is what WB is going to see.
IMO, it doesn't matter if HD DVD wins or loses this week. The point is already moot. BD has destroyed HD DVD in world wide sales all year.

Honestly guys, if it takes Toshiba giving them 10 flicks (3 which are PoS counted), a BoGo on virtually every title in the library @ two major HD retailers to win a week... That IMO shows how far behind they really are.

Just calm down about this stuff. The public has done everything it could this holiday season in favor of BD, one major software dumping isn't going to make a damn bit of difference.

I don't think we should worry about HD DVD winning a week because of one or two stand out titles. Personally, I will be surprised if it happens. Blu-ray disc sales were probably brisk across the full range of titles and the occasional HD DVD spike will not effect what is absolutely obvious: They have played out their cards short of giving a player away with the sale of a movie. Blu-ray players are reaching parity and when coupled with the PS3, HD DVD becomes much less relevant with each passing week.

What's up with the Blade Runner numbers? I heard it was pretty hard to find on Blu, but I didn't think it was enough for Red to take the lead.

Btw, David Vaughn posted on HDD that Blade Runner sold about 50/50 overall between the two versions, so that means the Ultimate Edition sold substantially more on Blu, if it was able to reverse a Red lead on the Collector's Edition, yet still not make the top 20.
Typical pattern, early decent sales for HD-DVD, then they drop off, Planet Earth the obvious exception. Plus we're also seeing HD-DVD sales concentrated on a smaller number of titles.

Correct. Bourne was still a strong #1 but Blu dominated the top 10 chart. The only odd thing about DV's breakdown was that Blade Runner on HD outsold Blu.

Even though nobody here really cares for Dave Vaughn and his "insider" info, he has access to the numbers and has accurately leaked them for weeks. I take his word on 61:39.

Dave Vaughn has been kind enough to give us the numbers early and it's been 61:39 for the last two weeks. Identical ratios.
I actually find this funny. The guy spouts off how people are being unfair labeling him as a HD-DVD fanboy so he says he will stop releasing the numbers so it doesn't look like he is biased (some of his comments he has made over the months really do have a red tint to them). Of course that promise to shut up lasted about 5 days when he had the chance to have the spotlight again. The guy is an idoit. I don't even care if he favors HD over Blu-ray or vise versa but his attempts to deflect critics of his preference by "taking his ball and going home" to then flip flop in just a couple days makes him look like a complete goober.

Now it does make him look like he favors HD-DVD because he comes back and states HD-DVD is doing good with Warner titles then gives the numbers again. The guy just puts his foot in his mouth constantly.

Blu-ray most assuredly one the year, as if HD DVD did manage to squeak in a week, we'd absolutely would have been hearing about it by now.

Personally, I'd rather have the numbers than not. I don't care what his "agenda" is. I think alot here are WAY to hard on the guy. You might not like his intentions, but the fact is he's a Home Theater enthusiast like the most of us around here.

For the record, he's stated should WB go the way of BD, he'll get behind the format 100%. While I love BD, I think sometimes we let this stupid format war get the best of us. He might have made some damning statements in the past, but I certainly don't put him on the level of some of the other HD DVD shills.

I think we really need to stop thinking about HD-DVD winning. Period. What happens if at some point (months from now) HD-DVD manages a 50-50 split for months. Imagine them overtaking Blu-ray at some point. How long would they have to sustain those sales to even think about winning. A year or more?

Blu-ray has dominated for a year. The consumer electronics companies are behind Blu. Only Toshiba, Universal, and a paid off Paramount is backing HD-DVD. The best they can hope for is a stalemate. Is that really in anyone's interest?

i feel like blu-ray is a jogger, who has been running around a track at a strong, steady pace and hd dvd is a little 5 year old boy, who when the jogger gets on the straight stretch of the track, gives it everything hes got and starts racing him for the next 100 yards, and then exclaims, "I win! I win! I win!" after he beats a jogger out in a 100 yard race after that jogger had already ran 8 miles.

The format war is a marathon, not a sprint.

remember with all the work they are putting into trying to get the US down to 50:50 they are still losing by at least 65:35 on a total international scale (states included). there is no way in god's earth they can get international numbers down to 50:50 and sustain them.

Jaguar, does the EU have something like the Nielsons. I would like to you, stockstar and someone from Japan get together on a week of 60-40 split in the USA. Total all three sales figures together as see what the ratio is.

Now it seems everytime HD-DVD makes the slightest ripple, they start the "it will sure be interesting to see what THIS will do against Blu-Ray." This time, they pulled a post right of the HD-DVD FUDder/fanboy handbook and posted the Amazon graph and were raving about how well HP titles were selling. They also quote the AVS forum. We will win the week, the BOGO will be proved pointless......but as many times as this happens it never fails.

http://www.engadgethd.com/2007/12/27...first-time-ev/

Besides, didn't Planet Earth hit #1 on the Amazon charts already, thus making this Engadget post entirely false?
This time last week they were saying HD-DVD HP would outsell the Blu-ray version, now they are saying, oh well, that didn't happen, maybe it will with a BOGO.

In previous weeks they've dismissed Blu-ray thumping HD-DVD, i.e. the Transformers week, because Blu-ray had BOGO's.

They post spin and FUD, a jumped up blog.

Whats good for HD-DVD is apparently unacceptable for or Blu-ray.

Still haven't posted last weeks numbers yet, eh? WTH? At some point they have to post them. So are this weeks numbers going to be next freaking week or do you think they will post two weeks worth of data today at some point?

This is BS.

I would guess HD would win this week. The Amazon B1G1 including HP was huge. But so what? We WANT HD to at least be competitive. Then we (consumers) get better prices.
Competition is good for the marketplace.

Take Care,
Matthew

Look I'm not saying I hate the guy because he liked HD-DVD more (which he stated he did because of "insider" information about Blu-ray's ability to manufacture discs at the capacity that is needed) but he looks like a fool when a week ago he was crying how people are treating him unfairly so he publically stated he was going to stop releasing numbers. Then he comes back and tries to get in the spot light again and makes comments that HD-DVD had a very good week. He wonders why people think he either a spolight ***** or HD-DVD fanboy?

He might be a theater enthusiast but his true calling seems to be a politcal office......the guy can afterall flip flop like the best of them. He'd be better off sticking to his word for at least a WEEK.
