I think these numbers are good IMHO.
seriously......if any company trul cares about a single format they will look at EVERYTHING not just their own titles. When BD alone can take 5 aggregate top 10 and HD DVD can only do 1 (and that not being transformers or Shrek) And BD has Spidey 3, Ratty and Casino royale.....older titles i think thats enough said of where this thing is right now.

no more games.

Donot forget to add that the 1 title that is there is in it first week. So there is no staying power at all.

Hmmm... still not what I got....

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: Blu-ray outsold HD DVD 1.2:1

Harry Potter Years 1-5 Boxset: Blu-ray outsold HD DVD 1.3:1

300: Blu-ray outsold HD DVD 3.75:1

Planet Earth: HD DVD outsold Blu-ray 3.11:1

Spiderman 3 (Blu-ray) vs. Transformers (HD DVD): BD wins 1.21:1

Casino Royale (Blu-ray) vs. Transformers (HD DVD): BD wins 1.33:1

I'll take another look too, though.

That's sure to perk up Warner's ears. That pushes superior legs to insane levels.

Gary
We'll get their soon , but on my calcs for w/e 16/12 '300' Blu-ray outsold the HD DVD version by 79:21 - that's practically 4:1 ! Edit - oh, you're right! 3:1 - oh, well. Still good!

I think what we are seeing there is what we already know. Once you get the fanboy buying frenzies and the crazy deals out of the way, when it comes to the daily grind of actually selling your titles for profit, Blu-ray is delivering the goods for Warner.

Edit again! No hang on! I think 4:1 is closer.

If we know that for every 100 units of BU there were 14.38 copies of '300' BD sold then if we reduce the pile of BU to 85 then logically we simply reduce the '300' pile by the same proportion. If BU = 100 * 0.85 then '300' = 14.38 * 0.85 meaning in a chart where BU scores 85 then '300' BD has to score 12.22. If that makes sense then yes, it was close to 4:1!

i know neilsen's are important. id just like to point out they only cover about half of the american market and the american market is only half of the total hdm market. so these numbers really are only about 25% of the grand picture. lots of room for change in there. with that in mind, the blu-ray worldwide total should be better than what the nielsen's give us, and i think these nielsen's are pretty good.

Okay... redid the math on 300. This should be it.

100/84.59 = 1.182
1.182*15.52 = 18.34
18.34-14.38 = 3.96
14.38/3.96 = 3.63:1

3.63:1 (favoring Blu of course)

No, what I did was equalize the aggregate with the individual title numbers, then subrtract the known Blu-ray portion to come up with the HD DVD portion. Should be correct.

100/84.59 = 1.182 -- finding "equalizer" multiplier for top single-format release to bring aggregate numbers in line with individual numbers

1.182*15.52 = 18.34 -- multiply aggregate number for 300 to find total number, relative to known BD data

18.34-14.38 = 3.96 -- subtract known BD data from found aggregate to get HD DVD

14.38/3.96 = 3.63:1 -- divide for correct ratio

EDIT: And just to show that this is the correct way to calculate:

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

100/84.9 = 1.182

1.182*100 = 118.2

118.2-64.58 = 53.62

Thus HP did 64.58 vs 53.62 (only off by .02)

Very nice, about damn time!

I wonder if Nielsen's will OFFICIALLY post the the Bourne week numbers, which we know are 61:39 also?

Looks like Pirates 3 will have some legs well into next year! I am really anxious to see what the numbers will be like for the week of the 23rd.

Yes they will. They are now following the pattern of last year.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=8935

So we have a 1 week delay until after the first of the year when they donot count the first week of the year.

Yay! Good numbers for 16th Dec. Good regarding Warner I think.

But dang it

we have to wait two weeks for each week's results now.
