Well now I am really interested in what the BDA will have to offer for some new players, as I will now finally make the commitment to retire my PS3 for a dedicated BLU player. I just want to make sure I get something that is equivalent to or better than my PS3, which isnt that easy

I do have a 4th HDMI port not being used at the moment.

I will track them both until it is all over...

It will be fun to watch the graphs go.

In fact, the way Warner is pulling out slowly from HD DVD, this thing could easily go on into the later part of the year...

Not a chance! Even if nothing else happens (unlikely), you will see consumers who were fence sitting FINALLY starting to make purchases. Even more significant, RETAILERS will finally be able to recommend Blu-Ray as THE High Definition solution. Retailers and custom installers being able to sell Blu-Ray without the FUD of HD-DVD will accellerate sales exponentially this year.

Add to this the fact that at LEAST one of the HD-DVD exclusive studios left will probably defect as well, and you have a doomsday scenario for HD-DVD.

Prediction: HD-DVD will be OFFICIALLY dead (with press release from Toshiba) within 3 months! (posted 1/4/08)

Too late:

TOKYO, Jan. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba is quite surprised by Warner Bros.' decision to abandon HD DVD in favor of Blu-ray, despite the fact that there are various contracts in place between our companies concerning the support of HD DVD. As central members of the DVD Forum, we have long maintained a close partnership with Warner Bros. We worked closely together to help standardize the first-generation DVD format as well as to define and shape HD DVD as its next-generation successor.

We were particularly disappointed that this decision was made in spite of the significant momentum HD DVD has gained in the US market as well as other regions in 2007. HD DVD players and PCs have outsold Blu-ray in the US market in 2007.

We will assess the potential impact of this announcement with the other HD DVD partner companies and evaluate potential next steps. We remain firm in our belief that HD DVD is the format best suited to the wants and needs of the consumer.

What's left for CES now?, apart from microshiba twiddling their thumbs and whistling at their "presentatation" hoping that noboby asks them about the 800 lb gorilla that LEFT THE ROOM
