Arrow Hd Dvd = No Soup For You... Come Back... Never.... ---> Next!

Very soon the "counter" will reset and the new weekly sales ratio data will be DVD vs. Blu-Ray. It's going to take all of our combined efforts for years to come in order to win those sales ratios oneday.... but I am confident it WILL happen. It's only a matter of when.

Now we need to throw Blu-Ray parties and educate our friends and families that are stuck in the stonage without HDTV's or Blu-Ray players. For those with less then 20/20 vision, it will be crucial that these folks see their eye doctors and get proper glasses, contact lenses or laser surgery
Educating them on viewing distances will also be critical.
Here is my favourite website for a viewing distance calculator:

http://myhometheater.homestead.com/v...alculator.html

WW1 is over but here comes the mother of all opponents --> the "original" look and sound of good enough: DVD

Let's brace ourselves as it's going to be a LOOONG hard batte but i'm sure we are more then ready for it.

It will be fun to watch the graphs go.

In fact, the way Warner is pulling out slowly from HD DVD, this thing could easily go on into the later part of the year...
I would hope that Best Buy and other retailers would have the decency to quickly phase out selling HD-DVD (other than a limited number of new releases) in their brick and mortar stores. Continue to offer them on-line. There are a large number of folks "out there" who don't know that the war is over and could be unknowingly enticed to make what, for them, would be a financially disasterous mistake by buying into a dying format.

I will be extremely surprised if the major retailers even start phasing out HD DVD before February. They don't want returns/price matches on every single HD DVD Christmas gift sold (don't forget, extended return policy for Christmas!).

Expect to see $100 Toshiba upconverting DVD players which ALSO play HD DVD being advertised in mid-February though

It would seem that little things like this are what Warner would discuss in planning for the next year.
Apparently not.

Don't discount the idea of some huge hd dvd sales (clearance sale) in the following weeks. From this point on I expect to see BOGO every week from every hd dvd studio including Warner.

I would hope that the smart ones would IMMEDIATELY take little steps such as no longer reordering HD-DVD items when they get to their previously established "reordering points". Gradual attrition can accomplish much.

Not sure whether to believe his rumors, since they've been proven to be false nearly 100% of the time, but now he's saying Weinstein will be at the BD CES Keynote. Not unexpected, given their leaks.

I don't think my 90:10 prediction by February is at all unrealistic. HD DVD is at the tipping point, and so the collapse is going to come very quickly.

At this point it's borderline unethical to sell HD DVD players, since retailers know it's a dying format. For those that have no ethics, they know that almost every HD DVD player sold is a guaranteed return once the poor person figures out what's going on. So at the very least, no players are going to go ordered, and player sales, which influence software sales, will dry up.

All the frantic HD DVD buying to win the format war? That's all gone.

People confidently building their collection of HD DVDs because they think the format is going to win? Not anymore.

Word will spread, and I think by February all you're going to have left is a very few uninformed people with very few places for them to make the mistake of buying HD DVDs, along with a few bargain hunters who wouldn't mind picking up a few discs at fire sale prices. That's the only reason they'll even get 10% in February.

The tipping point is here.

He gives every appearance of being just some attention-starved schmo who "predicts" things anyone aware of the current situation reasonably could predict. Last week, it was Warner going red (so much for that one!). Last night, it was Paramount wanting out of their contract (even my dog knows that). Today, it's the entirely plausible possibility that Weinstein will attend the BD CES Keynote. I'm just not prepared to give him any credence whatsoever.

It's hard for me to see why anyone would be buying any more HD DVD discs now, unless they don't know what happened yesterday.

Lets not just celebrate this, and hope the collapse comes quickly. Lets make it happen. Keep spreading the word of Blu with this New Line/Warner news, and push everyone away from HDUD ASAP, and force Universal and Paramount to quickly go Blu!!! We did it with Warner, now we can finish off U/P with the final few blows!!!
