All this Karate Kid talk reminds me of those final scenes. Where that one Cobra Kai kid screams constantly in the background in a truly annoying voice. "Yeah...crush him.", etc. I was praying for someone to turn around and roundkick him in the mouth.

This seems an appropriate time to step in and mention that Ralph Macchio is a relative of mine.

That is all.

Another interest statistic:

An analysis by Home Media Magazine's market research department, working with The Redhill Group, found that Blu-ray Disc software enjoyed a 64% sales majority in calendar 2007, selling through to consumers 5.7 million discs, to 3.2 million for HD DVD. Since inception, consumers have bought 6 million Blu-ray Discs and 3.7 million HD DVDs, while in the four-week period ending Dec. 30, 2007 consumers bought 1.7 million Blu-ray Discs and 979,000 HD DVDs.

So, what happens if HD DVD wins this week? J/K. They had that buy 3 get 2 free thing at Best Buy. Ha ha ha. I don't even really care anymore about the numbers, except maybe to see the HD DVD number getting smaller and smaller.

On the one hand we have the cold hard facts (1.7 million vs 979,000)...

On the other hand we have the spin...

'Akio Ozaka, head of Toshiba America Consumer Products, said the company was surprised by Warner's announcement.

"We were particularly disappointed that the decision was made in spite of the significant momentum HD DVD has gained," Ozaka said.'

So, exactly what momentum is he talking about?

mmm according to those numbers,

BDs sold in 2006 (6 months): 400,000 = 66,666 monthly
BD sold first 11 months of 2007: 4,000,000 = 363,636 monthly (5.5x)
Plus the BDs sold the last month of 2007: 1,700,000

HdDVDs sold in in 2006 (8 months): 500,000 = 62,500 monthly
HdDVDs sold first 11 months of 2007: 2,220,000 = 201,818 monthly (3.2x)
Plus the HdDVDs sold the last month of 2007: 980,000

My theory is that their heads are spinning from the barrage of bad news and they are mistaking that for the effects of their format gaining momentum.

We had the massive BOGO at Amazon that is still on and really doing well. We also have RE:E, RE trilogy, Shoot'Em Up, and War. We should see no less than 70:30. I predict 73:27.
