I don't have time to search at the moment, but I believe these tentative numbers "skew" Hd-DVD's way early in the week and then when the finals come out they show an increase in the BD percentage. If that's correct, then these partial numbers could be pretty scary (for HD-DVD fans).

The HD DVD version may no longer be in the number 2 spot this week... Thoughts anyone? I would be cool it hit 200,000 BD sold!
You may be right. I was in Frys today and I was talking with a few employees when someone brought out a stack of about 10 BR 300's. From what he was saying, he was just now getting his copy so figure that after 2 weeks, a store employee was just now able to purchase one. I had just been in the movies section and I didn't remember seeing any copies so I'm guessing they were sold out untill he brought out the restock.

I finally ordered my 300 copy this week, so add one more. Also go my brother, who is a dual format owner to purchase the BD version instead of the HD version. He is starting to see the light.

The next edition of HMR can't come soon enough. Celebrate with a bowl of popcorn and a BD movie!

new info from closed thread on AVS

http://uk.reuters.com/article/techno...19176920070815

Quote:
A Home Media spokeswoman said Blu-ray got a further boost in August from strong sales of the "300" title. Stephen Nickerson, senior vice president, market management at Warner Home Video (TWX.N: Quote, Profile, Research), reported sales of about 190,000 Blu-ray units of the film, versus 97,000 in HD-DVD since July 31.

we have nice new info about progress of 300 in BD and HD-DVD camp

last ratio and sales numbers were 65:35 or 162500:87500

now we have additional 28000 for BD and 9500 for HD-DVD with ratio 74.66:25.34

interesting can't wait for friday data with info about first tile breaking 200,000 units for BD

overall ratio moved from 65:35 up to 66.2:33.8 or 190,000:97,000

I'd rather buy Casablanca than 300 (are you listening, Warner?).

Those are some wicked numbers. And on AVS HD DVD fanbois were claiming BD outsold them in the first week 65:35 only because stores didn't order enough HD DVDs.

Seems like it was the other way around (or stores finally gave up on HD DVD )....

The best numbers I have for the first week were not exactly 65:35, they were 164107 vs 85893, which is a little closer to 65.5:35.5. That makes the new numbers (which are rounded off, but I'm discounting that) 25893 vs 11107 for a ratio of 70:30, which is still pretty good.

Still, some saw 300 as the sign HD DVD is turning things around.

The straw grasping by that crowd is amazing. They latch on to some sort of nonsense, make it a foundation of an argument of HD DVD's impending comeback, and then abadon it the moment the stat fails them.

300 was the latest. Now that the disparity will merely grow with time it will, of course, become a meaningless measurement.

So, if 300 was 70:30 for week 2. And TMMT was kicking ass for Blu-ray, that would seem to point to a 72:28 or better week in this Friday's numbers.

I believe its going to be a great week for the Blu. The sooner that HD DUD is finished, the better (more acceptance for Blu).

I actually had an employee at Blockbuster tell me that it was a mistake for the company to go Blu as after 300 was released HD was making a comeback!

I told him that the company made the decision based on the number of PS3s out there.

He said the PS3s weren't' selling well.

I then pointed out the sales of PS3 were more then the number of stand alone HD DVD and Blu Ray players combined.

I'm sure he's still going to insist that HD DVD is making a come back.

There are many dumb people in the world. It amazes me that companies employ people who directly spread misinformation through their stupidity and ultimately hurt the reputation of the company. These folks do this for a living and yet have less information on the subject than those of us who spend 30 minutes or less per week thinking about it.

I think it's more of a shame that the companies don't make the reading of things like Video Store News mandatory for their employees so they're better informed
