Blu-ray Dominates Disc Sales Chart Post-Warner Announcement

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...ouncement/1383

Quote:
The Blu-ray camp took a decisive lead in disc sales for the week ending January 13th, the first full week following Warner's announcement that it would abandon its HD DVD support.

Though Blu-ray has outsold HD DVD in overall disc sales by a factor of nearly 2:1 since the start of 2007, last week saw the largest gulf between the two rival formats yet, with Blu-ray commanding an 85% share of all high-def discs sold.

Home Media Magazine is reporting that of the top ten high-def discs sold on either format, not a single HD DVD disc made the list, with the top-selling HD DVD disc ('The Kingdom') moving only one tenth as many units as the best selling Blu-ray title, '3:10 to Yuma.'

While it's too soon to tell whether Warner's announcement had a direct effect on Blu-ray's stronger-than-ever disc sales lead, HD DVD had been holding steady with a relatively strong 39% share of high-def disc sales in the last weeks of the 2007 holiday shopping season.
Can't wait for the official results from HMM.

its sickening to think the DUD group are still defiant even now. Are they really that blind and stubborn. Are we really gonna have to wait until mid year before the bell finally tolls for them.

I think we all know that they will not give in or up in this war. Everyone knows its over. They need to make as much money as they can while there is still some sort of a market left for them to unload on.

I briefly mentioned this in another thread, but the FUD from Toshiba keeps backing them into a corner...

HD-DVD (hardware) had their best sales this past quarter.

HD-DVD software just lost 50% of their software sales immediately following this "successful" quarter.

So now, with even less studio support, Toshiba believes that lowering player prices will keep them alive, how?

Remember WB titles wont get replenished and even if they are still out there they will be harder and harder to find, and 5 of HDDVD's top 10 were from WB. So once many of these titles are depleted weeks like these may be in the 90's.

They're releasing titles until the end of May, according to their press release. Insiders have said that internally they plan to produce titles until March, and then they will stop replenishing them after that, but that's a long way off.

I suspect this will not become an issue, as I'd guess they're going to have a hard time moving the stock that they currently have. We're going to be seeing dusty old HD DVD Harry Potter discs left over from Christmas 2007 in the bargain bins this fall.

That one doesn't work. I can tell you that even blind rodents would care about lossless audio and wouldn't push a format that has to dump the good sound to stuff in good picture and extras.

I think they are more like the 3 little pigs, except that the one smart enough to use bricks got hit on the head by a load of red bricks and stopped using the blue ones. Since the red bricks are of lower quality than the blue ones, his house will be blown down too if he doesn't start replacing them quickly.

Wow. So if we had a 85-15 week, and Warner is still releasing titles on HD-DVD, what will these numbers look like later in the year when WB is Blu exclusive?
