March 11th. When ID4, I Robot, Gataca, Dogma, Hitman, and No Country for Old Men compete against Fletch and The Bee Movie.

Mark that on your calendar!

Gotta be honest...the fact that Good Luck Chuck is #1 is surprising

Good to see another article by the editor for the end of HD-DVD

i.e. A year has only 2 weeks,
first week A sold 6, b sold 4,
weekly chart is 60:40, YTD chart is 60:40
second week, B sales falls hard
A sold 1 b sold 1
weekly chart is 50:50, YTD chart is 7:5 = 58:42
You see, b's sales falls, but YTD increased.

anyway, that's no big deal for minor math errors.

No they are not. Their support of HD DVD ended immediately. Pan's Labrinth was the first and last HD DVD title they are ever releasing. It's all Blu exclusive from here on out.

+1. This is a big magazine for retailers too, so hopefully the constant abuse that HD DVD is taking will finally start getting results on the retail front soon too.

I don't have any "minor math errors".

We know that the volume in week 2 is a little lower than week 1 since the YTD after week 2 is a little closer to week 1 than week 2.

If this week's volume was around the same numbers then the YTD would be about 78 but it is only 76. This means that the volume for this week had to be lower. Based on what I calculated it would have to be around 70-75% of last week to get it down to 76 YTD after this week.

Does anyone have any data on the volume at all?

In truth it could be up or down! I know it's confusing but it's all because HMM don't publish the 2 decimal places that would allow us to make accurate guesses.

The other problem is that HMM truncate the Blu-ray ratios. For example the YTD figure could be 76.95, but HMM chop off the decimal places and show 76 (and they round up the HD DVD number of course).

This is why trying to work out the volume needs a lot more than just the Nielsen figures as shown in HMM.

Wow, a blow out and with out any major sales or give-aways. I thought the red team would at least try to rally and make some sort of push, but that sure did not happen.

Solid win!

Considering the big title Good Luck Chuck and the fact that is a slow buying time, not armed with any B1G1 are facts enough for me to believe you are right, volume as whole went down.

It takes awfully hard core reds to keep going. Out of the 06/07 Red Ants how many do you think actually will go down with HD-DVD. I have to think out of those million, maybe 20% will go down with the ship.

I don't think that even with missing decimal places there is any way the volume could be up (and especially not up by a lot). There were no real bigger sellers and no BOGO so it shouldn't really be surprising if volume isn't up is it?

Once some more bigger releases come out I'm sure the volume will go up a lot though and the YTD and SI numbers will move even faster.

Before anyone else jumps in..

STOP RIGHT THERE!

Winn says he will be running a Nielsen game here from next week. It makes sense to start a new thread for each weeks game rather than clog up this thread as happened this week.

So, no guessing until Winn gets things going. At least, no official guessing!

Based on the sales of Blade Runner, as per Good Luck Chuck it was

33.84 Blade Runner (Blu-ray)
15.81 Blade Runner (HD DVD)

The #1 HD DVD was The Kingdom.

The Kingdom was 100.00 to Blade Runner HD DVD 63.37

To get The Kingdom as per Good Luck Chuck's 100.00

(15.81/63.37)*100 = 24.95

So The Kingdom HD DVD was 24.95

Ha, ha.

HD DVD is teh sux!!!
