At this point, the difference in mkt share this week is only 82-18 = 64. Which means BD only outsold HD by 32%. IE: BD only outsold HD DVD by 1.32X, which is a tiny advantage that will disappear once the xmas tree effect kicks in.
I was just going to point this out. I can see the red spin on this. "They are back on track and gaining on Blu Ray". The war is not over, they were just resting and are now back in the fight.

Yep. At this rate, they'll be beating blu-ray within 7 -8 months. Oh noes.

After all, if you're losing by less each week, you're still winning. Given blu-ray's trojan horse, the ratio should be 95:5. Bad news for blu-ray.

With all their price cuts and BOGO deals to entice sales and they only gain 1%, that's pathetic.

Yes, har har, that's all very amusing. I'm sure that's exactly what they'll say. You've really nailed it there.

Sorry, but the whole "the HD DVD crew is going to spin this as a victory" routine is getting a little old. They actually don't seem to be doing this much at all, so it's kind of weak to keep pretending they do. I think it's time to start being gracious in victory instead of gloating and accusing the losing side of being so stupid they think every 1% gain is a major victory.

Quite, and maybe not be jerks about it, but enough soap box, more cowbell.

The event / the 'plan' / outcome
2007 Fathers Day promotion / cheap players + free movies / failure
Payoff to Paramount / cheap players + free movies / failure
Wal*mart secret sale / extremely cheap players + free movies / failure
Black Friday / slightly less cheap than before players + free movies / failure
Q4 / cheap players + lots of free movies / failure
Respond to Warner / 50% cheaper players + free movies / failure

Anyone seeing a pattern?

There is no 'plan'.

There is only FAILURE. Universal & Paramount have associated themselves with failure. These two studios have effectively decided they will no longer participate in high definition on disc and are presently riding the good ship Toshiba into oblivion. Fortunately there are wiser heads at both these studios who will ensure that one day soon they will actually start making money out of high def media - from actual customers that is, as opposed to never ending bribes to associate themselves with failure and humiliation.
Excellent post.

The ratios are not going to be the same every week. It's always going to fluctuate. Late last year it fluctuated around 60% blu. And at that time Dvders claimed they were coming back. Now it's around 80%

Well if you say something enough and the media repeats it, people will believe it and continue to believe it if the media has said it long enough even if they correct it later, the only problem for HDDVD is the media didn't agree (probably did not really care either way last year) with what they were saying so they did not print what they were saying so most people did not get misinformed.

Spin has nothing to do with it.

Obviously you don't go over to High Def Digest dot com very often.

Give me a week {or two} in which they stop having an HD-DVD fanboy retard spout off about how Warner's decision doomed High Def media as a whole and how Digital downloads are going to be common in 99.99999% of homes as of tomorrow and replace Blu-Ray {but we all know if HD-DVD had pulled off the win it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread for hard copy media}

Then, and ONLY then, will I start championing the cause of being a gracious winner.

I don't only see the 'vocal majority' saying stupid shit like the above noted, I also see the 'vocal minority' not only complain about being treated badly and lumped into the same category but not lift a finger to point out the stupidity of it all when such a thing were to happen that a member of the 'vocal majority' says something stupid like how VOD is going to be ready for 90% of homes as of yesterday and how Warner's decision sunk HD media as a whole.

The second the folks that are being gracious losers step up and actually do something to stop the stupidity being spread by those who are supporters of HD-DVD that's when I'll advocate leaving them alone and accepting of a gracious win.

Until then, it's all just fun and games and if you can't take a bit of verbal hacking then get the **** out of the playground.

I don't think it's low, it's just that certain companies announce how much they sell, has Lionsgate {who've been the top sellers the last couple of weeks} always announce how much they sell per their first week?

They don't announce numbers because there isn't anything special about them. When we do get an announcement it is usually because records are being broke, or it is a new best for the company. The numbers for the new releases of late are low, but we don't know how low. Probably below 30-40k each for the top 1-5 with a couple showing good legs like Yuma.

All we need to know is that the numbers are much higher than any of the HD DVD releases.

The fanboy posts have gone way down but there are still people that say things like that over at AVS in threads like Will the Hi-Def Formats Ever Take Hold? You get a person like what Super XP said

HD DVD did have a chance seeing that it was backed by the DVD Forum, but Blu-Ray has no chance. If HD DVD goes under it's back to 1080p SD DVD up-scaling for many.
There is always a few in most threads and they are not always coming from the same people or you get people that always talked about how good HDDVD is now talking about digital downloads and these formats don't matter and will never succeed. With some of these HDDVD people they absolutely hate Blu-ray they take it like the opposite of their religious or political belief and take offense to it the same way if someone told them that their beliefs are wrong.

True, but in this case it's not so much that someone told them their religious believe was wrong, it's that there's verifiable proof that their believe IS wrong.

You want a good laugh, that deadmeat moron is quite funny.

I honestly don't see how anyone could have looked at the market and logically picked HD-DVD. It'd be like walking into a bar fight and seeing 10 bruiser bikers on one side and the Woody Allen type nerd on the other and siding with Woody.

until Ken Graffeo admits defeat, i think we can continue accusing him, not the red boys, of being so stupid they think every 1% is a major victory.
