Let's see. Advertisements for The Matrix were playing in theaters before Spider-Man and Pirates 3. The first two Pirates movies are already out on DVD as well. So much for point number 3. What a whiney little girl. Now tell me again that HDD is not biased. Just can't lose like a man. |

to celebrate, I received myself tonight 5 classic movies, 3 new movies (one foreign), 2 new TV seasons, and one live concert, on BD, 7 of which are BD exclusives, and except for one bloody title I have next week's BD booty, doing my part on keeping those Nielsen ratings going the color of the sky

The since inception numbers are slowly but surely starting to look like the weekly numbers.
![]() Kudos to Disney for putting out two great releases and I know they will do the 3rd film justice as well. Quarter 4 is going to be a complete massacre on HD-DVD. Cheaper BD players, boatloads of PS3 consoles, and a major onslaught of titles from the BD camp. SM 3, FF4-2, PotC3, Die Hard, and more are sure to come, and that's just counting the summer blockbusters. What about the big catalog titles that are sure to come? Hopefully Fox will come out with some well mastered titles and have huge waves of titles like they did the week the PS3 dropped. |

Predictions for this week? Trends are pointing at a big number:
DVD Empire had a 61/39 split for May 29, while Nielsen showed 69/31 for May 27. Right now DVD Empires numbers for June 5 are 73/27! And there is the big Sony sale at Amazon (rankings have popped big time): Top 10 HD DVD - 479 Top 50 Blu-ray - 693 All those Sony titles are stock, not pre-order, and hence contribute to the sales figures for Nielsen comparison. Still disappointing numbers, suggesting that both formats will co-exist. June's going to be rough. I want to see 70/30 or even 80/20 but that likely won't happen this summer due to the quantity of releases.

I agree, a 60% market share seems too close to 50% but 70% really leaves little hope for HD DVD. I think the low priced Sony player coming out in the next month will help since this will be the lowest price to date for BR players. I know the 20G PS3 was once $499 but you could hardly find one for the longest time so I don't think that was really ever an option for the masses.

You have to think that of that 33% that's buying hd dvds, more than half the discs they're buying (the Warners and the Paramounts) could be bought on Blu-ray so it's about between 10-20% Universal/Weinstein exclusive content sales that are mantaining the hd dvd numbers walking on a tightrope. Any moment the scale balance could swing with new adopters or old adopters realizing they can buy most of the content on Blu. Then the safety net is what saves the performer from certain death
