Disney's pro-Blu-ray graphic on the last page is persuasive.

That is amazing, considering the lack of quality new releases in HD DVD.

Iger on Blu-ray

Quote:
The CEO was asked whether he would entertain distributing product in HD DVD instead of exclusively on Blu-ray Disc. He said Disney has made its bed with Blu-ray due to format's perceived technological advantages and broader industry support. "With Pirates coming out on Blu-ray on May 22, we believe the advantage of Blu-ray [over HD DVD] is only going to widen," he said.

He believe Blu-ray hardware player prices will continue to fall heading into Christmas, thereby forcing retailers to make a decision regarding limited shelf space. "They are going to have to choose a format in order to manage their shelf space, and when that happens, the advantage is going to go even further in Blu-ray's direction," he said.

Iger said outside of the United States, Blu-ray holds such an advantage, there is practically no perceived format war.
Hmmm. He didn't laugh hysterically or throw-up at the question. That means he's thinking about it.

I could imagine this Xbox before me, with nice little tag saying "The Simpsons Movie, coming to you on Blu-ray"

They need to update the two monthly graphs, they only go to Feb. '07 and Jan. '07, respectively. Updating that ad will prove even more persuasive.

"Oh, but you can't read between the lines? He didn't say Disney would NEVER do HD-DVD!"

Seriously, I love the Mouse House. Now if Sony and Fox can start kicking some ass as well...

I have told HD DVD fanboys at Hidefdigest.com, AVSforum.com and anywhere anyone would listen, Disney is almost as tied to blu-ray as Sony is. Its been that way since 2004. He has stated this time and time again in our Disney newletters. Now I hope they will just give up hope on this defection.

lol. Good one.

Btw, is anyone keeping an archive of these pie charts? I'd like to see how the "since inception" and "year to date" numbers have progressed each week.

Nothing is impossible. But, I just hope through the end of year that the consumer is able to make an informed decision. For both formats.

My gut feeling is way too many people purchasing into HD DVD are doing so without realizing all the facts with regards to studio support, and of those a significant number that clue in instantly become Sony/BD haters when they realize they have to kill the giant for their purchase to get full support.

Human nature being what it is, I wonder how many exclaim "I could have had a V7"?

Gary good quote. Other websites are reporting the Disney info also.
Disney is smart and plans on only releasing in BLU-RAY since they do not want to feed the format war. One HDTV format means wide consumer acceptance and more money for the studios.
Transcript: Disney CEO Iger Talks Up Blu-ray in Analyst Call
QUOTE
The best thing that could happen is for the format war to end, which will be very pro-consumer, particularly as hardware comes down.”

Amazing...still 2 to 1 and Fox has barely released anything in the past few months. It's going to be a good year for BD.

^^ Exactly. Just imagine what it's going to look like when that next round of Disney and Fox titles gets thrown into the mix.

That's sad but true. They're like that person at the party no one likes. Everyone hints to him to go, but he just stays around and makes things awkward. TAKE THE HINT AND GET THE HELL OUT!!

But didn't you know that once Disney & Fox start releasing again, it means:
1.)their support of HD DVD is imminent because the delay was caused by evil Sony and the subsidies have run out. All the while, during that delay Disney & Fox were testing low-bit rate VC-1 encodes for HD DVD!!!

2.)Even if Disney and Fox start releasing again, Univeral is going to release 400 more titles by year end to offset this.

3.)Warner Bros is going to release the Harry Potter series and 300 exclusve to HD DVD by the end of summer. Also, even though WB will soon announce Batman Begins and V for Vendetta for Blu-Ray, they are most likely going to release special editions of those two titles exclusively on HD DVD so that makes the BD versions irrelevent.

And some more fun...
4.)BD is a waste because AM and BW said that they were working on a new VC1 tool whereby they could get transparency to the master using 2mps avg bit-rate for HD DVD. This makes it better than Blu-Ray (but we still need 51G discs anyway).

5.)D@mn the evil BDA who banned the "WB spokesman" at AVSM (my note: did anyone see that "we miss you cj, thanks" in caps in the matrix review thread)

6.)We lost the sales ratio again this week, but it's only a matter of time. Oh yeah, they's sold 3M PS3's, but they still cannot bury us.

How did I do guys? I'm just feeling sarcastic this morning!!!
