Any of our membership plan on attending Inter BEE 2016 coming up in Tokyo?...
http://www.inter-bee.com/en/forvisit...ent_forum.html

If so, it would be appreciated to post or PM me any next gen related info or exhibits as I won’t be there.

^ For those readers unfamiliar with the prestigious nature of Inter BEE and its demos, this article serves as an intro to its status (right up there with NAB and IBC) and history…. http://www.fdtimes.com/2015/10/07/inter-bee-2015-japan/

Fellow member gkolb is considering wooing his partner and driving 100 miles to see the BLLHW native format presentation –
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post12847520

Will/would you? It will be the most visceral movie experience you’ve ever watched at a theatre.

Where there will be a presentation (covering the topic of its high resolution) about the short film Meridian.

From Meridian to Mandarin.
Continuing with the reporter from the quoted fancy lettered YouTube -

Reporter: What!
back and forth in English with Joe Alwyn about karoke and night markets
Mason Lee: Yes, I will take him to eat “pig’s blood cake” and see his reaction after eating “stinky tofu”.

(crowd audience laughter)

Some folks may be unfamiliar with who Mason Lee ^ is. He's the son of Ang Lee, who appears later in the YouTube interview and speaks about the resolution of the movie.

Fruition…. https://www.arclightcinemas.com/movi...-halftime-walk

The day has now arrived for west coasters to get to see the full native format. If people are within reasonable driving distance, I recommend taking advantage of this very unique (historical) opportunity.

I still don't understand why the non-3D DCPs of "Billy Lynn" are 2K only - I mean this IS a Sony release in the first place the supposed saviors of all things 4K - they at times seem so hypocritical and dense about the technology they back and support

That's Sony's MO.

Yeah. It's worth pointing out that although the tech stuff has gotten a lot of buzz, the movie itself isn't some hugely budgeted blockbuster event and Sony have been cutting back on 4K finishes and/or DCPs of late. Inferno cost almost twice as much as BLLHW and ended up as 2K.

Sony is in deep financial trouble. They have had a number of fiascos lately... many of them completely their fault.

This will definitely impact 4k media.

Sony has been one of the least enthusiastic supporters of UHD Blu so far so it wouldn't be a big impact IMO.

I'm thinking of 4k mastered content. They were, at one time, the biggest proponent of it.

Right, gotcha. I see what you mean, as something like American Hustle would never have been finished at 4K under the current outlook.

How do I find out if my local cinema is playing a 4k DCP or a 2k upscale?

I tried contacting some of them on twitter and they are clueless and keep giving me canned answers about how wonderful their cinema is. The distributor just won't bother to reply.

^ I have a similar question - I know that Disney doesn't include it's DCP's code string information on Deluxe's website, but how did they encode their features 2K or 4K ??

The ‘from the lens to the living room 4K’ evangelistic tide started to shift first with SPE closing down Sony Pictures Technologies (heck, the President of that division, Chris Cookson was known as ‘Mr. 4K’ in Sony’s own promotional literature and he was let go). And then, after that came Sony selling its digital intermediate, mastering and restoration facility, Colorworks to Deluxe.

Sony must really be bleeding internally. Again, much of it is their own fault.
