It's completely unrealistic, but if every single person could wear a mask outside, numbers of new cases would fall drastically.. It's a very simple thing that everyone can do, but obviously there aren't masks for everyone, and not everyone will follow it anyway. If only...

It'd have to be an N95 respirator mask to prevent you from getting it, the masks most people are wearing would possibly prevent spreading *if* they coughed or sneezed perfectly clean into the mask. Coronavirus is transmitted by inhaled droplets (not aerosolized like measles or chickenpox) or by touch-to-mouth/nose.

It can also live on certain surfaces for up to 3 days, hence the hand washing.

Correct, and I mentioned touch-to-mouth/nose at the end.

The reason I mentioned the inhaled droplets is the way most people are going to end up getting this, similar to influenza. Also like influenza, I think we're going to be dealing with this virus for a long time.

They just shut my whole county down for the next three weeks starting tomorrow. Only places that will remain open are every-day-essentials.

I'm in the Bay Area. Stay safe.

Masks only work IF you actually have the virus. Just a waste for all the people that do not.

If a carrier is wearing even a regular surgical mask, and so is everyone else, then that drastically reduces the release of droplets. They even say if you believe you have the virus to put on a mask, not just an N95 mask, but just a regular one, because it can defintely reduce, if not prevent it from spreading.

My job said the same thing, but they said if one employee gets it, we will shut down for 2 weeks just in case. I don't think our company has more than 30 people as of now.

And we would get up to 10 days paid for.

Three celebs test positive in one day. It's spreading a lot faster.

Yes, which is exactly why it would be effective. Do you understand why this is such a huge issue right now? Because this thing has a 2 week incubation period, and infected people are walking around asymptotic and spreading it to others. And then those people are spreading it etc.. So clearly if people who are potentially infected wore masks out of precaution, then that cuts the rate down drastically. It's all pretty logical.

And for the record, even if you're not infected, having a mask on is more beneficial than not having one. It is an extra barrier, between your mouth/nose.

Read this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-facts-checked

Quote:
Claim: ‘Face masks don’t work’

Wearing a face mask is certainly not an iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick – viruses can also transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, can penetrate masks. However, masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone (although others have found lower levels of effectiveness).

If you are likely to be in close contact with someone infected, a mask cuts the chance of the disease being passed on. If you’re showing symptoms of coronavirus, or have been diagnosed, wearing a mask can also protect others. So masks are crucial for health and social care workers looking after patients and are also recommended for family members who need to care for someone who is ill – ideally both the patient and carer should have a mask.

However, masks will probably make little difference if you’re just walking around town or taking a bus so there is no need to bulk-buy a huge supply.

I’ve been putting off getting a haircut for the last several weeks.

Now it looks as though it may be two months before I can get one and feel safe about it.

My hair length has been at max capacity for at least three weeks.

...I may end up looking like the lead singer for Stillwater before this thing is over.
