A cancer patient, related to a guy I work with, (he's in isolation at the moment) contacted it from her own doctor that tested positive after returning from Africa.

She already has cancer, and she's only suffering a low fever, and a cough.

That's also happening with people who are recovering. Ventilators are being freed up on a daily basis. Cuomo has also stated that patients can and will be shifted from city hospitals to state ones, where they might not be as overrun, or there might be an available ventilator, or whatever else.

More patients will die yes, It will trend up as we head towards a projected peak in the next 2-3 weeks, before dropping down again. There's already signs that the rate of hospitalizations appears to be dropping.

The current mortality rate for CV19 in the US is 0.017 based on 140,990 cases and 2,457 deaths.

But (IMO) the real stat is those who have recovered: 4,435. That's a very low recovery rate.

But that number isn't accurate either. There are probably tends of thousands who got it, and never needed hospitalization and recovered at home. Some probably not even knowing they had it at all. There are more higher risk people that end up requiring hospitalization, which would skew the percentage of those being counted as recovered.

Nothing but sheer speculation. There are no stats for what you are suggesting.

It's based on logic, and various studies and estimates. We know some 80% of those that get it won't need hospitalization, and most will self-resolve on their own. Various studies have indicated that a large portion of a population may have gotten it without even being aware (or just mildly so). What possible stats do you think we could have for that now? Until we do mass antibody testing, we won't know how many people have gotten it. It's certainly way more people than who's been hospitalized, or even being officially counted as infected now.

What's your take? Do you not believe people out there have gotten it without being aware, or that there is a large portion of the population that got it and self-resolved at home?

Did You Have Coronavirus Without Knowing It?

Health experts say the virus has likely been in some U.S. communities for weeks and some people have surely had it without realizing

Yes, it’s possible you may have had it and didn’t know it,” says Dr. Lee Riley, MD, chair of the division of infectious disease and vaccinology at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health. The more recently you were sick, he says, the greater the odds that it could have been Covid-19. But those odds are low.

Riley explains that testing for Covid-19 did not begin in earnest until recently — just this past week, for many U.S. states and cities. “It still takes a few days for the test results to come back, and the results are usually not reported until a certain number of tests have been done,” he says. In other words, there’s a lag between the figures we are seeing and the reality of the virus’s spread. Depending on the area of the country a person lives in, it’s likely that some small percentage of the population had Covid-19 several weeks ago — or, in the case of places like Seattle, even a month ago or longer — and didn’t know it.

While timelines concerning the virus’s spread vary from one place to the next, Riley says a good rule of thumb is that, once your city or town has a confirmed Covid-19 death, the virus has probably been in your community for about two weeks. He also says that, based on virus data collected in China, it’s likely that many people who contract the virus have mild symptoms or, in some cases, no symptoms at all.

“In fact, symptoms for most people are quite mild,” says Dr. Sandro Galea, MD, a physician and dean of Boston University School of Public Health. He says that up to 80% of people who contract the virus have only weak symptoms — such as a low-grade fever or cough — and that they may have mistakenly attributed these to the common cold or some other minor ailment. “It’s definitely possible to have it and not realize it,” he says.

I have to repeat myself because people don't seem to care and that's why our numbers keep going up. I don't understand what it takes for people to realize how big of a deal this is.

I officially know people with it now. A guy I went to church and high school with, who already lost his first wife to cancer, has it and gave it to his new wife, his dad, and his mom, who is in ICU. I am scared s**tless. I'm a smoker with diabetes and anxiety disorder (stress can cause immune system suppression), and my husband is post-liver-transplant on immunosuppressant drugs and has asthma. He's a handyman, so he's out of work bc people won't let him in their homes, but I work at Amazon in the food department, so I have to keep going. I wear a mask and gloves, but it's hard for me to trust completely in them.

Listened to a podcast where a Doctor was talking about patients with the virus who had died after taking ADVIL and IBUPROFIN as these mutate the virus. He advised not to take these, only take TYLANOL. Don't know how true this is but wanted to share info for all to look into it.

I don't know about mutate, but I think there's enough out there now to suggest people should stay away from Ibuprofen if they have it, or suspect they do. I watched a video from an ICU doctor at New York Presbyterian here in NYC (I linked to it earlier today) and he says they're only using Tylenol (acetaminophen) now, and telling people not to take ibuprofen.
