Does anyone use a mask when they're in public 100% of the time? I don't. I keep the mask on whenever I'm on a train or bus and, of course, at work and if I decide to venture out to a store, I'll wear it, but I'm not wearing a mask ALL the time. No point in wearing it while I wait for my train, on the way to the train station, after I get off the train, etc. There are exceptions, like if there are enough people around me while I wait, but many areas along my commute are still sparsely populated so there's no point in suffering every second I'm outside.

I'm going to go back to my hair dresser in a week or so. Last time was 6 weeks? ago just after they opened. I was obviously nervous.

But I was somewhat relieved by a story CNN? about the hair dresser who was infected and worked on like 200 people during the time - and no one got sick - because they were all wearing masks.

I mostly stay at home, but when I do go out - ie. earlier this week had to pick up a can of paint from a paint store and also get the tires swapped on my car - I wear one.

I don't however wear one when I go for my walks. I give @%%#! joggers a wide berth and anyone else I'm next to them for at most a second as we pass each other.

I don’t wear a mask when I’m driving my super short commute to work. While I’m in the office I’m one of like 5 other people there and we’re all spread out and have been since mid-March (no one has tested positive yet thankfully!) but will put it on if I happen to greet the UPS/FedEx delivery guys in the lobby.

I don’t think the mask as just a way to make others around me comfortable, it’s also a way to protect myself!

regarding durability of the humoral immune response, a study out of UCLA ( https://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/c...t-three-months ) published yesterday in the NEJM -

“……we found antibody loss that was quicker than that reported for SARS-CoV-1,4,5 and our findings were more consistent with those of Long et al.1 Our findings raise concern that humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 may not be long lasting in persons with mild illness, who compose the majority of persons with Covid-19. It is difficult to extrapolate beyond our observation period of approximately 90 days because it is likely that the decay will decelerate.3 Still, the results call for caution regarding antibody-based “immunity passports,” herd immunity, and perhaps vaccine durability, especially in light of short-lived immunity against common human coronaviruses. Further studies will be needed to define a quantitative protection threshold and rate of decline of antiviral antibodies beyond 90 days.”

bring on da booster, or else hoping that dem CD4 and CD8 T-cells in some vaccines like Oxford’s have good long-term memory if there is a continued compliance problem as to some people not wearing masks

Yes. I live in NYC. I'm constantly surrounded by people. And it would be pointless to take it on and off all the time.

Yes even cloth masks offer much protection, as the primary form of spread is droplets from others entering the respiratory area, and a cloth mask will block them.

Also, a cloth mask will greatly reduce the level of infection if some virus does get through. Meaning you'll be much less likely to be sick and will instead be asymptomatic.

Good luck on that! I don't think I could stand doing a full marathon on a treadmill. I rarely use mine. My current coach, Zach Bitter, just set a world record for the treadmill 100 miler a few months ago, 12 hours and 7 minutes (he also holds the world record for the 100 miler outside).

Thanks Bruce, recently got my overall treadmill record to 20 miles and my masked/covering record to 12 miles. So I'm positive I will finish, it just probably won't be a good time since I'm still getting used to 12+ miles on the treadmill and covered face running on the treadmill as well. Good thing the Grandma's time limit is 7 hours so I probably won't have to lie about the time after I finish.

Going to have a massive spaghetti dinner on Friday to make it less likely I will need to visit the bathroom at the gym while I'm doing it lol.

Yeah you'll be fine. So Grandma's will let you submit a treadmill run? I'm doing the Boston marathon virtual on Labor day. I want the bling. No time limit, just do a continuous marathon on the same day. Plan to do it as a training run for the Bear 100 in late September. If it gets cancelled, there are people who will run it anyway self supported and I may join them.

Yeah when everyone wears masks, no one gets sick. That's partly why I'm optimistic about cases declining next month. Mask use is getting more prevalent in the areas where they have been shunned. And having the POTUS finally endorsing masks will go a long way in having more people don them.

Salons here in Marin were only open a week before they shut down again. Now governor Newsom is allowing them to open again, but on one condition: that they do it outside. That's going to be interesting, cutting hair in parking lots. If it gets windy, the hair will be blowing all over the place. Oh well, less for them to sweep up I guess. I need to get mine cut again, my wife did it last time (her first) and as would be expected, it didn't turn out too well.

It says virtual, doesn't say it can't be on the treadmill. Besides, 26 miles is 26 miles, shouldn't matter if it's inside.

Well for me a treadmill marathon would be much harder, mentally speaking. I was thinking they might want a GPS track to show you did the mileage, but good if not. I'm still waiting for find out the verification details of the BM virtual.

Hey I want the shirt and the medal but if I don't get those I will still know I ran a ridiculous distance on the treadmill. Grandma's just emailed me back and said I can run it any way I want. So a picture of my Garmin after crossing the 26.21 mark on Sunday it is, even if it takes me a disturbing amount of time to get there.

Gotta remember to fuel Friday and at least it will be here so I won't have to go far to eat after I finish. Always annoying when you break your neck going 26.2 miles and it takes you forever to find post-race food.

So many complain about treadmill miles but for me it can be fun because it's just me, the treadmill and streaming. As long as I keep going, I should do fine.

7 day moving average, cases by state, normalized by population.

Florida has the highest case rate per million people.

Arizona was the first to spike last month, and they are the first to fall. Based on hard hit areas in March and April, the spikes have been lasting for about 6 weeks. That has been the case for New York, and the hardest hit EU countries.

California has a lot of cases, but they also have a lot of people. So they are in the middle of the pack as far as states go. The curve has flattened in the last week. Whether it has peaked and starts to decline, is a big unknown, but it probably won't go up much higher.

Louisiana is the only state to have two surges and is one of the top states now in cases per million.
