That seems to be working elsewhere, so why not NYC?
there are three things

1) # cases will take a month or more to react to any changes and two months + when it comes to deaths.

2) it is not just a matter of open close. But attitude. bars opened up here over a month ago, some of the people I know have been to bars (and some of them have caught Covid-19 because of it) many others have not been to bars because they realize just because things are open does not mean they are safe and so they are still acting as if things are closed.

3) time works against us. What I mean is simple let's say group A is the most impatient/audacious people and they say " X is open now let's go to X". A bit later group B will say "see nothing drastically bad has happened to group a, we will do it too". Group C will say see nothing drastically bad has happened to A&B, we will do it too"... not only that group A will say "see nothing bad happened the previous time(s) so I can be less scared of it.

until the #s explode (and it is too late) or something bad happens to someone the person knows.

Well at this point with those of us who have either not gotten it or have gotten it but were asymptomatic, you have two choices. Live your life in fear of getting it or live your life with precautions in place to prevent yourself or others from getting it. I choose the latter, I'm actually not afraid of it hurting me, I'm afraid of it hurting the old people I know.

Brazil has reached 100k deaths, and things still aren't about to get any better (over 1200 daily deaths). I remember the early days back in March and April when it was believed that May/June would be the peak. That's why seeing people protesting against masks and social distancing makes my blood boil.

That crap used to upset me more (still does but less now) but that's just the way people are. Some people's default setting is "always find something to complain about".

LOL our governor and some of her advisors are meeting this weekend to discuss fixing our crumbling New Mexico economy. RE-OPEN stuff safely. All the discussion in the world isn't going to put money in the hands of people who need it most. Getting people back to work so they can be productive and have paychecks in their hands will.

I still see some posts in here once in a while questioning whether the virus exists. I don't trust a thing the media says either just wanted to quickly share my story. In March I was working at the cook county jail in Chicago which became one of the worst places for the virus in the entire country. I'm 33. No history of asthma or prior health issues. I fell ill and couldn't breathe late March. I was sick for over a month with two hospitalizations. I couldn't walk at times and worried nightly if I was going to die. It felt like I had an alien living inside my body trying to kill me. It felt hostile in a way in which I've never been sick in my life. It was like a combination of the flu, pneumonia and mono. Anyway I still can't breathe normally and had to leave my job. It's real guys. Please wear the masks. I understand not trusting the media. Obviously the powers that be are using this to get richer and manipulate as usual but the virus is legit so just do your part when possible.

Yeah America is pretty Dystopic right now to say the least. A lot of absolute thinking by intellectuals

True intellectuals know few things in life are absolute and are willing to adapt their thinking as necessary.

This quote from the superintendent tells the story...

So when a girl wears short shorts with her butt cheeks hanging out to school, or a boy wears a shirt that says “**** The Police” they don’t do anything about it because it’s a personal choice? Back to school is going to be even worse than I thought, with some states being worse than others.

Days after photos of packed hallways go viral, Paulding high school reports 9 COVID-19 cases

Quote:
PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — Just days after a photo of crowded hallways at North Paulding High School went viral, parents were informed Saturday of nine confirmed cases of the coronavirus at the school.

Channel 2 Investigative Reporter Nicole Carr got a copy of the letter. Principal Gabe Carmona wrote that six students and three staff members who were in school last week have since reported positive tests for COVID-19.

The school district has not announced if students who were exposed will have to quarantine and have not given any notice about shutting down classrooms.

actually there are three choices and there in lies the problem

1) live your life in fear of getting it
2) live your life with precautions in place to prevent yourself or others from getting it
3) live your life pretending the virus does not exist.

3) is the problem and it also affects 1&2

I don't think it is a matter of not accepting that viruses/corona viruses/covid-19
exists or not.

It is more a matter of not understanding what it really means.

we hear of:
asymptotic: and that sounds like a get out of jail card. what is bad about a virus that won't change your life at all.
mild: not as good as asymptotic, but it still sounds like almost nothing
kills old people/who have pre conditions: you keep on hearing both of them together and so people can assume they don't qualify for both so they fall in the previous two classes.

The issue is
asymptotic does not mean that it does not do real long term/permanent damage to your body that will lower your natural life.
mild is anything that does not lead to hospitalization/"immediate" death
it is not both old and pre-existing condition, and pre-existing condition includes stuff like over weight which in the US is most of the population and does not mean someone needs to know about the condition.

you also have other stupidities, like me niece, she went to a bar, caught covid-19 had very mild symptoms for a day or two and now she decided that since she caught it once it means she is
a) immune
b) even if that ends up being wrong, she had it once and "I know what it means for me and it is no big deal"

It all depends on what they are putting into the vaccine.
There's a reason I refuse the Flu shot every year.

Well I'd say she's essentially right.

With the big caveat that I suppose if you were subsequently exposed to a much higher viral load you could still get incredibly sick.
