I think we need to go back to a lock down in most states (a few states can basically stay open like Hawaii they just need quarantines on entry) harsher then what we had back in march personally. It doesn't need to be a long lock down but it needs to be a strict lock down. If we do a lock down on the level of china we should shrink R to about .3 or .2 and after 2 weeks we should be down to like 5k new cases a day instead of 50k.

The less strict the lock down the longer we need to quarantine to get to a acceptable level of infection for contract tracing and testing to be effective. At this point We have so many cases we will probably need to do a harsh quarantine for like 2 weeks get levels low open up a moderate amount for 2 weeks and then quarantine again for another 2 weeks.

The nice thing about a blanket quarentine is we wont have the goverment picking winners and losers we can basically shut down nearly everything and everyone shares the pain to a degree. Once its over we can basically open up and deal with outbreaks on a more localized level but we have so many cases currently that I think if we had enough contact tracers to find most of the sick people and the people they could have had contact with would basically put like a third of our country into a lock down anyway.

Honestly, I believe that if we went on a strict lockdown and EVERYONE did what they were supposed to (i.e. stay indoors and only go out when absolutely necessary & wore masks & socially distanced), we can get through this pandemic & beat this virus in less than a month.

not everyone is going to agree with you...thats life..some will, some wont. and guess what, most of the time you hear from the people who dont agree with you more than people who might agree with you....

Good informative, caring fellow. Anyway, food for thought, and speaking beyond CALIF. county or state confines and addressing other states - be it a paucity of testing kit ingredients (reagents, swabs, etc.), masks, gowns other PPE, ventilators, ECOMO machines, etc., - if there were a true federal national response like with something akin to WWII, these are all inanimate objects that can be manufactured fairly quickly depending on complexity, if there is motivation to do so.

BUT, you cannot quickly train more doctors, nurses, RTs to handle what can come if things become higher than “knee deep” as Tony says, as this takes extensive didactic lecturing as well as experience which takes time given the skills involved – decision-making at the M.D. level, monitoring, even operating vents by RTs, etc.
That first video interview (33 mins) of Doctor Anthony Fauci that I posted two days ago, July 5, is a must watch. To me Anthony is like the golden eagle, the health chief, the virus/pandemic expert, the scientific sage man of wisdom, the guru, the Dalai Lama of science and health.

He's the gauge ...

As for the second video from MedCram (California), Roger Seheult, MD is the well articulated technical doctor with analysis and data and graphs to share with us all. It is much more technical but still very educative. Essential info on COVID-19 for the calibrated medical students of today and tomorrow. He's very good. Your wife is in contact with highly regarded professional medical people. Say Hi to her from Robert, Canadian from the West coast.

P.S. Some pic is coming up soon ...

China south korea and japan along with most other first world nations all sort of have beat it. Like you dont need to get levels down to zero to win but you do need to be pretty close or it will explode like in the us.

As far as our handling we choose the worst possible path. Do a half assed lock down to damage your economy and then give up so a ton of people die. Your being graded on two things really and apparently america decided to flunk them both.

Share with us what's good to know, the rest just toss it by the seaside.

It would help the medical staff (front line fighters) in hospitals by slowing down the spreading of this very virulent virus...COVID-19. ...And giving time to find vaccines next year and after.

That's all we can do all together force willing. The Force is self-distancing, wearing masks, be kind, be calm and be safe...@ home and @ work. All vulnerable people should stay home, work from home.

All people working outside, public, offices, ...etc. should be the main line of preventive measures. We depend on that main line...all of us from all ages, all backgrounds, hospital workers, elders, youngsters, middle people (age), poor, rich, all colors (blood is red universal), ...the entire community, society, humanity across the four corners.

What we do here and now affects everyone else everywhere.

P.S. Ignore the people laughing @ you, they bring no solution, zip.

Well there's something they're doing wrong. If most people stay indoors and only go out for essential purposes and wear a mask & socially distance when doing so, then I can't imagine how this disease can still spread.

Dane County, so Madison and the surrounding areas, are going to Mandatory masks on Monday morning. Wisconsin cases are on the rise and after three days of ZERO deaths, we had 11 yesterday.

Kind of odd that the entire rest of the state won't have masks unless their counties mandate them, so it's likely not gonna do much. Our Gov had his power taken away, so he can't issue anything statewide anymore, up to the counties.

Reading the comments about the order on Facebook has made for some hilarious reading. So many babies.

I think the numbers are back up today, it's Tuesday.

Yes they are indeed; 5,500 worldwide.
In Canada we're up, in the US they're up, in Brazil...up, Mexico keeps hovering around 500, India is not going down, and the UK surprisingly is up as well.

New cases are up too.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

China and Singapore, zero.
Australia has few new cases, zero departed.

May I ask how states like Texas, California and Florida can skyrocket like they are doing now if their density is not as bad as NY? People drive everywhere on their own cars and don't pack themselves into subway trains full of strangers. So why the big spike all of a sudden?

she’s actually the one who asked me for the pic from you of the Butchart Gardens and I just relayed to her yesterday that in the rare event he has one, it’s likely on film and needs transfer work

Arizona too, my guess is people flocking to bars and restaurants and such without any social distancing or masks.

I think our problem is we are handling things state by state, which is ridiculous. We need a national strategy. New York and New Jersey are doing well, but that's as good as nothing as we are one country and people from states with high infection rates are going to bring the disease to the states with low infection rates. We are handling this pandemic in the worst possible way, I agree.

And this is not, by any means, a political post and I apologize if it ends up coming across that way. My opinion is based on the facts... the U.S. infection rate has become out of control and we're not going to get anywhere if all states are not on the same page.

No that would be no lockdown measures at all, which I believe is the path Sweden chose.
