This is really bad, guys! Much worse than I expected!
The media and mass hysteria is making it much worse than it really is. You'd think it was the black plague. I've changed nothing with the way I go about my day and haven't felt the least bit concerned about interacting with others.

Well the thing is, currently, it may not be so bad. But it's the rate that it's spreading that is causing mass hysteria. And think about... the more people that get infected, the FASTER it will spread since there's more carriers out there. So yeah, it's looking pretty bad right now.

You live in Montreal, where barely anyone has the virus...Huge difference from NYC, which is densely populated, and where the amount of people being infected is growing at an alarming rate.

What makes you think China is reporting actual numbers?

That's because China is taking drastic measures and if it continues to rise here in the U.S., then drastic measures will be taken here too. And I have a feeling we'll get there as I don't see this getting any better...

Everything's for sale, including the news.
Don't panic, some good advice when things around seem to come crushing down ...
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/fr...rus-2020-03-09

It's ironic and funny @ the same time; you'll find out ...

I saw some strange behavior on the news reports today, and some websites.
The Internet seems to be jammed too; it is slowing down, erratic, overloaded, ...
New news outfits are appearing, I saw Chinese spellings on some US website.

It's probably nothing, just a wave.

Information and education are critical keys; any submission and interjection in the year 2020 of fast transportation and large global population (7.8 billion) is counterproductive. IMHO

Stay safe, wash your hands, don't touch your face, don't shake hands, clean the door knobs with disinfectants, the light switches too, the handrails, your golf clubs, anything and everything you touch...credit cards, bank machines (buttons), keyboards, plastic guns @ the arcades, joysticks (gamers), remote controls, iPhones, regular phones, fridge's doors, microwave oven doors, ...disinfect them all.
There's no use to freak out about toilet paper, there's plenty of natural things people can use.

Keep the spirit up, the humor high, be alert and vigilant. Be nice with everyone don't blame anyone.
We are in control of our own surrounding, it's our responsibility as good citizens during good and bad times.

The best is yet to come ... after the storm ...

I have no idea if NT News is a legitimate publication, but that Australian newspaper printed 8 pages of blank paper for readers to use as emergency toilet paper.

It appears John Hopkins made a change to their COVID-19 arcgis map. Instead of showing specific areas and cities for the US they now only show a running total for each state with no location specific information.

Look on the bright side, everyone! If you ever wanted to take a vacation to China or Italy, now is a great time as plane tickets are dirt cheap. Hell, you probably might be able to travel there for free right now.

The thing is most people aren't reacting yet which is the problem. we actually need people to change a lot of daily habits and slow the thing down to a level that doesn't crash hospitals or way more people are going to die. we are looking at 15 to 20% of the population getting pneumonia this year and ya with medical care we only have a 3.4% mortality rate but we also only have 80k respirators which means we potentially in just the us will have nearly 50 million people sharing 80k respirators over the year.

Like the math for this thing is actually quite scary and really theirs a reason china and Italy are going on like full lock down.

If you look at the news compared to the hard data the news and governments are actually trying to keep people calm because this thing really is quite scary.

If people are stupid enough to pay those prices then it is totally on them.

Every time I see someone cough it's hard to tell if they're actually coughing or just clearing their throat. Can't wait until this is over so I can stop being paranoid every time someone sneezes.

Saying that it's "mass hysteria" or something along those lines implies people are imagining things. And this is not true. People are actually getting sick, and some people are actually dying. Now, granted, if you're younger and don't have problematic underlying issues, you more than likely will be just fine. OTOH, lots of people are not younger, and lots of people do have underlying issues. So I'm concerned about those people.

And I will admit: Even though it's highly unlikely that I will be facing anything concerning when it comes down to this virus, I'm still concerned when it comes to whether I really feel safe about going to a movie, for example.

But yes, yesterday was just a very good example of the effect this COVID-19 is going to have on our economy. I mean, the markets just took a tumble, although today should be a nice bounce back for most of us. But this economy is going to be taking it on the chin for a good while. There's no way around it.
