CBS Pittsburgh - Giant Eagle To Temporarily Limit Ground Beef Purchases Amid Coronavirus Meat Shortages
CBS Los Angeles - Coronavirus: Grocery Stores Limiting Meat Purchases Over Concerns Of A Shortage

Ground beef output was already low, Wendy's had certain restaurants without ground beef items (they use fresh ground beef).

Now this. Its going to cause more stockpiling and panic shoppers, and then go from one store to the next store.

We actually have an oversupply of meat animals, but without the processors...

I would definitely be looking for more information from a better source before believing this. When asked why this wasn't in the news she said it was but provided no proof and only bashed Fox News.

My downstairs neighbor, who happens to be the Building Super, decided to have a family cookout in the backyard yesterday. They kept it small, mostly family (lots of kids running around). The weather was so nice I couldn't decide whether to cheer them or turn them in lol. They had a boombox blasting well into the twilight hours so I left it up to others to complain to someone. Didn't really bother me but we ARE supposed to be avoiding gatherings of any kind.

Finally! Someone has commented on this...

Since this began all you heard from the enviro-nuts is how this pandemic has been a Godsend for the planet.

Ok, sure, atmospheric pollution has 'temporarily' dropped, but ya, the massive increase in plastic that will be with us forever.

Most plastics "recycled" end up in dumps in other countries like Malaysia. China used to take most of the world's plastics (and other wastes), but stopped doing so a few years back, which now left a huge amount collecting around the world.

While I'm sure this pandemic isn't helping things, we have a much bigger problem on our hands than just the small increase we'd see from this pandemic. We need to find a way to drastically reduce our use on plastics, especially things that are single-use, like food containers, yogurt cups, etc..We're just way too dependent on them, and there's not always a practical alternative that is as durable and cost-effective as plastic.

We need to figure out a way to start hurling gigantic garbage balls into the sun (half-serious here lol). Have Elon Musk work on a way to do that cost-effectively, and he'd probably win a Nobel prize.

Anyone in New York been waiting on the extra $600 a week unemployment benefits? I'm hearing horror stories about people only getting one payment and then nothing.

That’s the problem right there. Decades ago more recyclable materials (such as glass) were used, but since plastic is cheaper to manufacture, companies have switched to it. We should go back to using glass containers.

Ya. Been doing that with both sets of neighbours since this started every Fri or Sat.

The one set of neighbours on their driveway, us on ours, and the other set on the end of the 1st set's driveway.

Of course, after I put in my debit card info on the IRS website, it doesn't matter because the website now says they're mailing my check on May 8th.

Yep. Everyone wants to save a buck at the cost of the environment, their own country, etc..

Yeah, why did Snapple switch to plastic bottles?

Glass bottles weight more, and cost more to produce/transport.

They can start by getting rid of the huge clamshells of plastic every product comes in now. We didn't always "need" a huge shell of plastic for our headphones, scissors, packet of pens, etc.

Our environment would be fine if we all just recycle plastic and I'm sure everyone is doing just that.
