and yet Sweden never fully admitted or enacted 'lock down' - and as a result: this.

and Quebec is wanting to reopen despite's it's high death rate:

Quebec leads Canada in coronavirus deaths, so why is it starting to reopen?

It makes no sense to look at absolute death totals. Canada has a population over three times that of Sweden, and many more places with larger population densities. Just to put things in perspective, Sweden has a worse death rate than America.

And their economy is predicted to be just as messed up as the rest of Europe. So how much was not shutting down worth? It cost thousands of needless deaths so far, and they're probably just delaying the inevitable shutdown anyway. When over 2,300 doctors, scientists, and academics sign an open-letter saying it's the wrong decision, you know you ****ed up.

That's the point I'm trying to make - they didn't shut down their economy - ya ok it wasn't the same as before either, but comparatively speaking people still lived normal lives and they focused on protecting the most at risk.

And now everyone else is opening up.

The great experiment continues...

According to who? Do you have a source? Also, is this the same guy that's saying the death toll comes as a surprise to him, and how he's not sure he made the right choice?

I do but I'm to lazy to look right now...remember reading many stories where Swedes think buddy can do no wrong.

I don't know, their curve has been flattened for a couple of weeks now. It's likely that they will stay the course IMO.

Did you expect it to be better, considering the EU is ground zero for this strain and we had lockdowns and they didn't? Just saying.

Or maybe it's just an affirmation that the lockdowns aren't as effective as they're made out to be and it's more simple social distancing than anything else (although I think the lockdowns here were mostly necessary, since people here are less likely to respect them if they're weren't a lockdown first.)

"flattening the curve" and the recent surge in deaths seem to contradict one another though.

I was just responding to Pondo who's using absolute death numbers rather than something like a death rate, which would paint a more accurate picture. Saying they have a worse rate than the US is just an easy way of saying that a lot more people per capita are dying their than in Canada, where he's from.

One can argue the merits of whether this no lock-down policy will work or not. i think only time will tell one way or another. I do feel for any elderly, and high risk people there right now who are essentially part of an involuntary experiment with their lives.

I didn't realize how stupid some of my "friends" are on Facebook. One of them posted on their timeline a few days ago saying that those who are forced to stay home should get paid time and a half. I'm like, WTF?? If their company is shutdown, how the hell can they afford to pay you time and a half. You're lucky you're even getting paid anything! It's incredible how selfish people are!

What surge in deaths? Here's the chart for Sweden.

The last 3 days have been higher than the two before that, probably because of the daily inconsistency in reporting. One really needs to go by a 5 or 7 day moving average for this very reason (7 day moving average shown by the solid line).

reading the various shit, about certain Governors and officials who have this attitude via Facebook and Twitter borders in my mind as ineptness and sadism

Police said Gloricia Woody, 32, entered the restaurant at about 6 p.m. and became aggressive with employees after being told that the dining area was closed. After a physical confrontation with a worker, Woody was forced out of the restaurant, according to police.

Woody returned to the restaurant shortly afterward armed with a handgun, Oklahoma City police Capt. Larry Withrow told The New York Times Thursday. She fired about three rounds, hitting one employee in the arm, he said. Two additional workers were hit with shrapnel, he added.
Apparently she's only being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Why not attempted murder?

Why do we continue to go easy on violent crime? She left and then returned armed. That's pre-meditated. She shot 2 people and injured 2 more. Assault and battery? Seriously?

Souplantation, my favorite salad, soup and bakery AYCE buffet is closing and not reopening. Nearly 100 restaurants.

Sandiegoville - Souplantation Is No More | San Diego-Based Restaurant Chain Will Not Reopen

Have a little over $120 in gift cards. Even though I would like to use the gift cards and promo gift cards, I kind of just want the restaurant/buffet back.

Gonna get worse before it gets better...
