Oh I think people should carry masks for sure, but don't need to have them on all the time. If I get close to someone wearing a mask, I'll pull mine up out of courtesy. I don't recall ever someone sneezing or coughing in my face as I crossed paths with someone outside. It would seem to be a rare event indeed. And in this covid 19 age, someone would basically have to do it on purpose.

I have no issues with people keeping their masks on their chin when no one is around and then slide it up on their face when they see people approaching. I think that's fine. What I don't understand are why so many people keep their masks on their chin, they are talking and don't keep six feet distance when they approach you. They come so close to you, continue chatting with their companion or on their phone and don't slide their masks up. What's up with that??

If other states were like NY where new cases are dropping dramatically, I'd be jumping for joy. But the fact that other states are still spiking concerns me. And this could affect New York too because people travel from state to state. Once we continue with our reopening phases and more people from other states travel to NY, we could potentially have a second wave.

See and that attitude I don't get. No one said everyone has to stay inside or can't go to work again till there is a vaccine. Things aren't just black or white. As far as I can tell people on here just hope people are careful and considerate....for the sake of others. That's not a bad thing to hope for.

I'm not saying people should or shouldn't stay inside forever. I'm just saying that a second wave is bound to happen and is unavoidable. I feel that this downward curve in NY is just temporary. I do hope that I'm wrong though for everyone's sake, including mine.

There might be a second wave, but contrary to what may seem intuitive, the places hardest hit will be in better shape because so many people got infected in the first wave. I think that is the primary reason why New York's case load (and New Jersey) is as low as it is now. Herd immunity already has made an impact.

They referred to only the former, which they estimated, at most, 6 percent of cases.

As many as half or more infected people never get symptoms, and these people are just not very infectious (lower viral levels in their respiratory tract to pass on). This has been known for some time actually, but the WHO spokesperson did a poor job of elucidating, and given the high chance of misinterpretation (which the media is eager to do to get a headline), should have just left that one alone.

Work from home man!

It's great... instead of getting up at 5:30am and spending 30-45 mins to get to work I now get up when I wake up. What a novel concept.

Then I log in, check that everything is good...make breakfast, have a coffee...surf the web, check the daily death count...then go for an hour walk...work for a couple hours.....have lunch. Yawn, oh look, it's nap time. Sleep for an hour. Yawn, stretch. Work for a couple more hours. Oh, time to hang outside in the back yard and enjoy the weather.

I'm still getting just as much work done as before, and life is more enjoyable.

Only downside is I do end up working late at night occasionally, and I still have to run into the office for a few hours every Sunday to do 'hands on' stuff.

I must say, there are some good things with working from home. For example, I can take a one hour walks everyday in my nice, comfortable shorts either during lunch hour or in the evening right after I log off. Though I may consider walking early in the mornings before I work as it’s probably easier to social distance during that time and also, it’s probably cooler outside and more comfortable. But I’ve really been enjoying the sunny weather lately and have been taking 6-7 mile walks everyday. Back during the non-pandemic years, I was only able to enjoy the weather on weekends and even then, I always had to hope and pray that there’s no rain on those two days. I was always so busy commuting to and from work that there was simply no time to take daily walks on weekdays.

Having said that, I still miss living a normal life. I really wish I can go out shopping, go to the beach, go for a nice boat ride or just relax and picnic in the park. Not to mention, I hate wearing this freakin’ mask during this heat! I’m going to have a very ugly tan line in my face for having this face mask on while being exposed to the sun.

I know, and we agree; WHO is under very close watch by millions, billions of people.
They need to have very solid credentials for our planet's health (humanity), or other countries will start to exit their support.

* Brazil is not doing very good right now ...
Friday it'll be @ number 2 spot worldwide, surpassing the UK in the number of COVID-19 departed.

India, Mexico, ... and in some countries the numbers are suspicious, very.

I like the novel idea of a 4-day work week, in Canada.
Ten hours a day times 4 (7 to 5).

Bah. Nothing but bad news this morning.

US projected to have over 150,000 deaths in a couple months, Russia over 500,000 cases. Mumbai turning into a horror show. Brazil simply stopped counting...

Today's supposed to be a nice day out. I think I'm going to just enjoy it.

Default Face masks may reduce COVID-19 spread by 85%, WHO-backed study suggests

Regarding N95 Masks, I got a shipment of 100 Moldex N95 masks in yesterday, so it appears that they are not in such short supply as they were earlier. I guess it makes sense, since if they were big shortages still we'd be hearing about it in the news.

Quote:
The review found that keeping a distance of at least 3 feet (1 meter) from other people lowered the chances of coronavirus infection or spread by 82%, and keeping a distance of 6 feet (2 m) could be even more effective

With social distancing, the chances of infection or transmission of these coronaviruses was about 3% when people kept a distance of at least 3 feet from others, compared with 13% when people kept a distance of less than that. What's more, for every extra 3 feet (up to 10 feet, or 3 m), the risk of infection or transmission of these coronaviruses was reduced by half.

With face masks, the chance of infection or transmission was 3% with a mask compared with 17% without a mask, a reduction of more than 80%. And for eye protection, the chance of infection or transmission was 6% with protection and 16% without.

Additional analysis in health care settings found that N95 respirators were 96% effective at protecting workers in these settings, while other types of masks (such as surgical masks) were 77% effective
