my niece was not at the house party but she was at the bar that day (and on Wednesday tested positive)

Yes the fines are excessive but some people need such crazy deterrents to make them think twice.
Very sad to hear about your niece testing positive, Anthony.
I wish her well.

I don't understand why stores like Best Buy won't open for in-store shopping in NY; just consultation by appointment only. Many retail stores have opened for in-store shopping and many big stores don't have a problem with maintaining the 25% capacity limit. Many Best Buy stores here in NY are pretty big, so I don't understand why people can't come in and freely shop. If other stores do, why can't Best Buy?

Wow, I guess if THAT many people are still going to Disney World despite the record breaking numbers, then I guess it must be ok...

Patient, 30, Dies After Attending 'COVID Party' in Texas, Told Nurse 'I Think I Made a Mistake'

A 30-year-old patient in San Antonio, Texas, has died from the coronavirus after attending a “COVID party” and initially thinking that the rapidly-spreading illness “a hoax.”

A “COVID party” is a gathering “held by somebody diagnosed by the COVID virus and the thought is to see if the virus is real and to see if anyone gets infected," Dr. Jane Appleby, the Chief Medical Officer of Methodist Healthcare, said in a recorded statement, according to NEWS4.

"Just before the patient died, they looked at their nurse and said, 'I think I made a mistake, I thought this was a hoax, but it's not,' " Appleby said.

Appleby said she was sharing the patient’s story in an attempt to make sure people know that the coronavirus can affect anyone.

They should be open:

Have you called the store you want to go to?

On my radar (I mentioned before but now even more so):
• India
• South Africa
• South America (Brazil top)
• Mexico

Mexico is going to surpass Italy, or later on today (6:00 PM) or tomorrow (Pacific Time).
Florida? I will check back in about three weeks from today ... August 1st.

Some retailers are making their decisions based on the rate of cases in the area, so you may have some stores open to shop while other stores within the chain are curbside pickup only, or some may even be closed entirely.

In Canada all orders take double the usual time...@ Best Buy.
Plus, it's not business as usual in their stores as products are diminishing from the shelves.
...TVs for example, as if the new 2020 models could be infected or of lesser overall quality.
Perhaps people are buying last year models thinking they are safer? I just don't know but it is what it is, from my own eyes.
As for Blu-rays (regular and 4K), that too they are getting less and less on their shelves...Best Buy Canada. I think the order of the day is to order, or online or ask the staff about their warehouse.

Personally I don't find in stores what I'd like to buy. But then I live in Canada, on an island.
And we too have a pandemic going on. Perhaps less severe right now as compared to some other countries, but nonetheless this is far far far away from being over. That'll be the day.

No, nothing in particular I want to order. Just wanted to roam around the store for fun. Supposed to be a nice warm, sunny day tomorrow here in NY so it would be nice to just check the store out while I cool off from the heat.

Speaking of TVs, I'm so happy I bought my new TV last year. I was holding off so long upgrading my old TV and when I bought it last year, I always wondered if I bought one too soon. Now I know I made the right choice since it's probably a lot harder to shop for one now. I mean, yeah you can order them online or do a pick-up at the store, but nothing is more fun than going to the store and looking at the picture quality in person.

Ok, you're looking for some nice air conditioning @ Best Buy.

I think I agree with you regarding a TV. I just don't know how QC will be effective going forward.
Also, your TV might outlast you ... now. Even if you make it you don't know how unscathed or not you'll end up.

No I have air conditioning. The thing is, I'm a NYer who loves to walk. So when weather is warm and sunny, I'm outside walking all day and enjoying the sun. However, when it's 90+ degrees, then being outside all day is tough and sometimes, you have to walk into a store every now and then break off and cool off. Plus that's the beauty part of taking a walk... you walk for a little while to get exercise, then you see a nice store or two, so you take a break from your walk to check out the store. Then you continue your walk. All this fun while burning hundreds of calories. This is why I love NY. We don't drive; we walk everywhere and it's fun exercise. This is why I'm 5'11" and only weigh 150 lbs.

I'm looking forward to next Black Friday ...

I've never lived in New York; if I was, during the Summer I'd go to central park and play chess.
I'd bring a battery fan. That's one sport I enjoy in the summer months in cities. That's why I'm 220 pounds and a bit shorter than you.
_____

Today, 5,000 departed globally, and 215,000 new cases.
* Mexico will surpass Italy tomorrow (on the total number of officially departed). ...Number 4 in overall rank.

I actually live in Queens, not Manhattan. So I'd have to take the subway to go to Central Park, which I refuse to do at the moment. That's probably the easiest way to contract the Coronavirus. I don't care how well disinfected they have been. I'm so happy my job still allows me to work from home so I can continue to refrain from public transportation.

But yeah, during the good old non-pandemic days, I always loved going to Central Park.

I don't work no more...I retired twenty years ago. I'm totally free. I play chess, and watch few flicks.
