Interesting story today...
I decided to give into the temptation of not eating fast food and pick up some KFC takeout. I'm like, with the precautionary measures here in NY, takeout food should be safe. Well, I went to my local KFC and on the entrance it says, "No Mask, No Entry." Ok cool, so far, things are looking good with safety measure. I walk into the KFC and lo and behold, the cashier did not have a mask. Yes she's behind a plastic barrier, but still. And right behind her was another employee bagging food and was wearing her mask on her chin. Oh boy, I stormed out of there so fast and ended up not getting anything. How the heck can businesses operate like that?? Completely unacceptable! |

My cousin lives there too. I called him the other day to check on him and he's like, "Don't worry about me. The media is overhyping this! It's nothing!"
Yeah, this is why the virus is spreading like wildfire over there. My guess is people there aren't taking it seriously. |

Hot means people like to go outside and refresh themselves in the ocean, usually near the beaches ... Florida, Texas, California, or in swimming pools (Arizona). Corona never takes vacations; that's one advantage it has on humans. Corona's battlefield is any type of temperature. We know that by now. _____ Extra: Check out this article that I posted yesterday (link) ... • https://www.latimes.com/science/stor...ow-will-it-end Last edited by LordoftheRings; 07-13-2020 at 04:05 AM. |

Imagine working all day in the kitchen in front of stoves and cookers with oil and having to wear a mask. ...I can breathe ... it's hot. We need ice masks (battery operated that keeps them cool all day). You plug it into the battery inside your ear. The better ones use two batteries, in both ears. ![]() |

Having said that, I think my co-op building is taking a toll this year on electricity due to people working from home and running their A/C all day. You see, I don't pay electricity. I pay monthly maintenance, which includes electricity in it. If residents have an A/C unit, there's an extra $25/monthly fee on the maintenance. So that comes out to a $300 annual flat fee for A/C, which isn't bad. But then again, who knows if they will increase that fee with more people working from home now and this summer being quite warm and muggy lately. |

One of my neighborhood "bodegas" had a sign on their door: "No Masks, No Gloves, No Service" up until about a week ago. They replaced those signs with friendlier "Please Wear A Mask For Everyone's Safety" something or other. The city must be sending people out and asking shop owners not to sound too brusque. I'm likely to avoid patronizing a store that has an unwelcoming sign on their door like that. You want people to follow guidelines but you don't want to sound militaristic.

It feels like the mask requirement is a social bandaid on the entire handling of the pandemic in the US. We all know masks are not 100% effective, and most don’t even block the dreaded droplets from spreading. I know for a fact the one I own is pretty much 50/50. But the difficulty in acquiring N95 masks whether it’s because of a shortage or insane price gouging, in addition to the fact that we refuse to truly lock down, what choice do i have? My wife and I avoid going out full stop and when we do we wear our masks. This is how Americans want it: you make the call, but don’t tell me what to do.
Don’t get me wrong, although I know wearing a mask is not a sure thing (our own officials even stated they were not effective in the early days of the pandemic), I also accept that wearing a mask when running to the post office or grabbing a coffee is way better than nothing. I understand the requirement and I’m very happy that businesses can reopen, I just wish our government cared more about protecting us than giving us this false hope that if you wear a mask and ride Space Mountain you’re OK, or employees can go back to interacting with dozens of customers every day without a risk. It feels like we threw our hands up and said Oh well, we kinda tried for 5 or 6 weeks and opened up again, ramped up testing, and are now doing little or nothing to stop the spread. Just a little frustrated because it looks like this is just the way it’ll be forever, because if/when a vaccine arrives, many will end up not taking it either because it’s too expensive or because of a belief in some conspiracy. |

The heat isn't making the virus worse. The heat is allowing more people to go outside and break rules, resulting in the virus spreading. People have been stuck inside for months, and now that it's warm, they want to go out, which is understandable, but it means lots of people ignoring safety measures.

Why was LordoftheRings banned? It's a shame to see regulars banned like they are passing trolls. I would think if somebody steps a bit over the line a polite PM warning would be plenty effective, without resorting to banning long-time members who are good members of the community.
