While a fever is considered one of the prime symptoms for COVID-19, medical officials in Florida say they’re seeing an increase in infected patients who aren’t suffering from a fever. Dr. Michael Koran, of the Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research, told WJXT that the virus impacts people differently.

“One of my favorite studies on this is this actually came from the Diamond Princess cruise ship where half the people who ultimately turned out to be COVID positive had minimal or no symptoms,” Koran told WJXT.

Health officials say fever is just one part of the screening process for COVID-19. Outside of a test, they say there’s no “end-all-be-all” for determining whether someone is positive.

Researcher: This new symptom could be a key indicator of COVID-19
“Relatively small percentage of people will actually have a fever should help you understand that you don’t trust your body temperature as a way of making the diagnosis,” Koran said. Koran told WJXT it’s important to get tested if you experience any of the symptoms.

A recent study of COVID-19 from researchers at London’s King’s College found two of the main symptom clusters do not include a fever.

I'd love scientists to remember that terms like "I think...", "perhaps" and "maybe" don't help anyone. They work in a fact based field, yet they're filling airtime with theories and speculation.

Has science-fiction spoiled us to the point where we think we shouldn't even see them on television? they should get in their labs and stay there until the show or movie ends ...

We went on a short vacation this weekend. The state of Colorado required everyone to wear a mask while in business, etc. There were so many vacationers it was kind of crazy, even in the mountains. Some people wore them everywhere, but most of the time the masks came off when they were outside.

I think some people may now be reluctant to wear a mask now that it has been clarified that using one is actually for the protection of others, not yourself. It's a stupid reason for refusing to wear one but I don't see the problem in not wearing a mask if it's just you in an area where there's not a lot of people. Just maintain the 6 foot distance.

When I was in Vail this weekend, I saw a few masks on the ground. One right by a trash can. People are pathetic

It's always been clarified that masks protect others but now they're saying it protects the user as well.

Not only that, it may reduce the severity or make you asymptomatic in case you do get infected in spite of wearing the mask.

So lots of good reasons to mask up.

Yeah outside I carry a mask but only put in on when I get within 6 feet of someone.

Ya they also had studies looking at a symptomatic people and upon xrays like a month or 2 later you could see a bunch of lung scaring in like 18% of them.

I think the permanent damage is a bigger problem then the mortality rate at this point.

Is the lung damage permanent? That's the information the general public would like to have, I imagine.

Clarified where? All indications point to masks protecting you from others as well.

Your Mask Cuts Own Risk by 65 Percent

We've had experiments for months showing particles in the air from talking, breathing, etc...it's hard to believe anyone is still arguing that masks don't protect you from others... The only notable clarification recently that I know of is when the WHO clarified that the airborne transmission is more of a thing than they thought. This completely supports the increased use of masks to protect yourself, not the opposite..

The experts have been saying all along that masks help protect the wearer. It's the stupid press that keeps parroting the "masks protect others, not you" mentality, trying to play on people's desire to be a good citizen and not want to infect others. Sadly, many don't care, unless they know it helps them too. And since they keep hearing "masks protect others, not you", they see no reason to bother wearing one, as they don't care about others.

I think a lot of people just think it's over-hyped and it probably won't hurt them or anyone they know so they don't wear a mask.

Although I agree they probably won't open before indoor dining.

Indoor dining it would help a lot to have plexi-glass dividers on table and booths at eye level, where people face each other.
So having people facing the same direction is the new litmus test? The majority of roller coasters have people facing the same direction and you're outside most of the time too. Totally safe right? (except for the projectile-launched aerosolized droplets from people screaming)

Gonna ride me a coaster at Disneyland or Six Flags in a pandemic...

Yes, huge difference between facing each other and facing same direction. Just like there's a huge difference in risk being indoors vs outdoors (with the difference there being more aerosols than droplets).

More studies would have to be done to determine that. It's hard to give definitive answers this early.

I think planes are relatively safe because of the great air filtration system.

Cars it depends on how long you are in it and if there is any outside ventilation. The danger there is the accumulation of viral aerosols. I'd have the window slightly down if possible, especially with multiple people.

But what about being inside a bus or a train? How should they cope when being inside these vehicles while on essential journeys?

When most people are using these modes of transport in Ireland; they usually sit on the seats with a lot of cases having the windows closed instead of leaving them open while the vehicle is out on it's route. It has been a trend for the past while during this pandemic. I don't get why this type of trend needs to happen among such people. They should be educated on how to use PT services properly during a serious pandemic like Covid.

I bet those same passengers couldn't do anything like that today while the weather today in Ireland outside was very warm. I think it's to do with the warmer air that is coming into the UK & Ireland from the atlantic this week when it's giving the higher temperatures. When I was out walking doing essential shopping in Dublin today; there was a huge amount of sweat coming down & staying on my mask as soon as I got home.

As I got home; I had to take off the mask straight away. I couldn't actually face the idea of wearing the face mask & getting virus particles spread onto myself while going home on a bus having windows closed inside while travelling during the warm weather and later spreading the virus into the house. That is just not on IMO. I opted to not take public transport during this pandemic as it was too much to ask in my case. But even when I had walked today; I was still sweating when I wear the mask. But I guess that is worth it when I get to walk outdoors while I avoid enclosed public spaces like the plague.

It might count as a small bit of compromise for my actions though. Other people might disagree with me but it's their call.
