Every parent in my neck of the woods is ranting on Facebook about the problems with the first-day-of-school virtual classes, the website crashes, the difficulties of re-entering virtual classrooms if the website kicks their kids out, etc. etc.

Well...

You all had a choice between in-person classes or eating at Applebee's, and you ate at Applebee's three months ago.

I don’t know if I find it ironic or pathetic that someone from California is arguing against wearing masks.
That’s the mentality that has you all in the dire situation that you’re in.
You are totally ignorant of California mask laws if you believe that. They are only compulsory here outside when social distancing is impossible.

Perhaps worry about your own state rather than pass judgement on people from other states. You say it's compulsory there (where is there?) in public, yet you see no one wearing one. How ironic. At least I am following the masks rules where I live.

School are such a heated topic these days. The New England Journal of Medicine formally recommended that at least elementary schools open in areas where daily cases per 100k is less than 10. That's the case in probably about 1/3 of the country right now (and all of the Northeast), and as cases continue to go down, most of the country will be under than threshold by early next month.

Things are a bit wild here in Georgia now, but the northern states are better suited for the in-person classes at the moment.

Had my first interaction with a "maskhole" customer who snapped at me when I asked him (as politely as possible) if he had a mask and who loudly demanded a manager. My shift was nearly over so I just walked away as soon as he started going on a tirade, told my front-end manager about it, and went about my final duties for the night. I have no idea how it shook out, but I saw him and my other front-end manager having a discussion inside the front doors as I walked away.

And he had the gall to say that "I just pull my shirt over my nose, you know that!" Maybe I had asked him if he had a mask when he pulled the shirt shit at some point, but I don't remember.

You never know. This disease is spreading like wildfire, so it's obviously HIGHLY contagious. Better be safe than sorry. So wear a mask as much as possible. It's the smallest thing to ask, so I don't understand why people just won't do it.

Daily cases per 100K, 7 day average by state, worst to first.

Georgia is the new leader, while the Northeast continue to have the least cases, relative to their size.

17 states + D.C. are under the 10 per 100k threshold now, while quite a few states are getting close.

And that's the annoying part. There are a lot of things in life that are difficult to do. Heck, most things in life are very difficult to do and for those, I have 99.9% tolerance for. However, there are some things in life that are very easy to do and wearing a mask is one of them. And for those, I have zero tolerance for and it annoys me to no end...

All the way down there near the bottom, almost like we're one of the most sparsely populated states in the country and that's reflected in our numbers lol.

If I can add in one more thought to this thread, let me explain mask efficacy.

Masks are no different than sneeze guards at the local all-you-can-eat buffet. You wear them to keep others around you protected. When someone approaches you for not wearing a mask, they have a definite right to demand that you either leave whatever building you're in (grocery store, food pick-up, etc) or for you to put one on. They don't know you from a hole in the wall, and they don't want to take home your germs.

On the other side, masks in general do kinda help you somewhat as well. Diseases come in airborne droplets, and having a mask might help staved off a droplet or two if you have one on. BUT, general masks don't form a tight seal around your nose and mouth, and this is where mask ratings come in to play.

N-95 rated masks are meant to form a seal around your mouth and nose so that all you're breathing in is filtered oxygen. Anyone who has ever worked for a hospital needs to be fitted for a mask (in my time is was basically small, medium, and large sizes). The way they administered the test at the time was to put a mask on you that felt comfortable. Then they would put a box on your head and spray in a mild vinegar solution through a hole in the top. If you could smell the sour, then you needed a different size mask until you got the tight seal. A good test for your mask efficacy is to stand in front of your stove while cooking or (at worse) go into a public bathroom. If you can smell something, you're mask isn't protecting you 100%.

This is a bit dramatic, but the ending to this video with the flame is a great example of how important it is to wear a mask in public for the sake of the health of the country. If people think they are above wearing a mask, that's a risk they need to take in private on their own. Certainly wearing a mask outside is not something that should be policed or fined. But not wearing a mask outside in a public area around other people is a problem.

Be outside your home with no one else around for 30 ft. with your friends, maskless.

Don't be outside in a busy line with strangers, waiting to go in to a Target without a mask. It's common sense.

No. The Governor's mandates are working. The most recent day's tally: 95 additional cases, 4 deaths.

Social distancing would be more effective then wearing a mask outside especially if your wearing a crappy dust mask like 99% of people. Personally I prefer people maintain 10 or 20 feet of distance when outside over wearing masks ( go across the street to pass people in suburbs rather then passing right by with a mask on like people do now with masks required).

I know and I agree but a lot of people seem to think social distancing is not necessary as long as you're wearing a mask.
