New report warns current social distancing rules may no longer be effective

https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news...ve-90633285966

Quote:
New research finds Coronavirus can travel 26 feet.
I think at this point it's clear much of what we hear about this is sadly either inaccurate or guidelines are completely wrong. I have always felt that 6 feet was not nearly enough. It's just a number they settled on that they felt could be accepted. If they told stores, pharmacies, etc. to have distancing lines of 26 feet at the checkouts, they would have laughed. It's totally impossible. How can you stay 26 feet away from others at the grocery stores, WalMart, the cinema, etc.? So they picked a number they felt would be better than nothing and might help a bit that we could actually work with. But in reality, how much good is that 6-foot distancing, when we know now it's airborne, and it can travel up to 26 feet just in droplets?

CDC reverses COVID-19 guidance, says testing may not be needed after exposure

Quote:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention quietly tweaked its guidance on COVID-19 testing Monday, making a change that could result in fewer people being tested and hinder contact tracing efforts.

The guidance now states that healthy people who have been exposed to COVID-19 "do not necessarily need a test," as long as they don't have symptoms. That's a reversal from previous advice that clearly recommended testing for all close contacts of infected individuals, regardless of whether they had symptoms.
Quote:
The new recommendation excludes vulnerable individuals, such as older adults and people with chronic medical conditions, who should still be tested after exposure. It also says that state and local health officials may still recommend a test.

"It's like they're saying we don't have enough tests," said Dr. Michael Saag, an infectious disease physician and associate dean for global health at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

"In my opinion," he said, "if a community or municipality has sufficient testing, they should continue to use the testing and ignore this recent update."
So now doctors are saying we should ignore what the CDC is saying? This is why people continue to spread baseless conspiracy theories and many don't have faith in what they are telling us. They keep changing their tune, without actually telling us the truth as to why they're doing it. Same with masks. First they say masks are not needed, which was a lie they told us just because they feared there would be a run on masks and they were in short supply early on, then they turned around when we had more masks available and said we should all wear one. Now they're changing their tune on testing, after telling us for months how important it is to do testing and contact tracing. Why? Are they low on tests, so this is their way of dealing with that? Who exactly are we supposed to trust during this crisis? Because I don't have a clue any more who to trust.

Time for some levity...

A Man walks into a bar, orders a Corona and 2 Hurricanes.

Bartender says, that'll be $20.20.

Wasn't that suggested months ago? I think a lot of people thought that number was arbitrary, away to keep some normalcy. It was 2 meters outside, but "do your best when indoors". Plus I'm pretty sure there are slow-mo videos on YouTube that show how far coughs and sneezes go and they're further than six feet.

It would literally be impossible for society to function if everyone had to stand almost 30 feet away from each other. Masks are the key here.

People still don't have to stand romantically close to each other all the time.

I couldn't bag groceries if my co-workers and customers had to stand 30 feet away.

The New Mexico Supreme Court will hear arguments on restrictions that were placed on businesses during the COVID-19 Public Health order on Wednesday, August 26, at 1:30 p.m. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court ruled that the government has the authority to level $5,000 civil administrative penalties against businesses that were found to be in violation of the public health order.

PHO thru Aug 28: New Mexico Public Health Emergency Order
That ruling was tied to a lawsuit filed by several New Mexico businesses who argued the $5,000 penalty didn’t apply to them. Currently, under the Public Health Order, essential businesses may not exceed 25% of their maximum occupancy and restaurants can’t provide indoor dining.

Citing a briefing by attorneys for restaurants, the Associated Press reports attorneys say the state health officials are invoking science as the basis for the ban but are not sharing specific scientific findings. New Mexico health officials have cited medical journals, traced outbreaks to restaurants by the CDC, and local infections that have led to rapid response tracing.

I already know what the outcome will be.

They can literally close businesses for code violations. If they update the codes to include new rules, it's going to be carnage if they don't comply.

Yup, even if the court rules in favour of indoor dining, it'll just get overridden again.

The gating criteria is all met, clearly they're just waiting for Labor Day so the numbers will still look good when they let kids return to school.

The NM Supreme court is the highest court in NM. No appeal, no override.
