His immune system was attacking his red blood cells, which I believe was caused by a new medication he was taking for his ulcerative colitis condition. He was feeling poorly for several days and we told him he should go to the hospital but he wanted to wait it out.

He did go in the day before to get blood tests, and the hospital send calls and messages to his and my wife's cell phones that evening. Unfortunately, neither were paying attention to their phones.

My wife saw him the next morning and thought he was dead because he was foaming slightly at the mouth. However he woke up and she dressed him and dragged him to the truck and drove him to the ER. She was with a couple of kids so she couldn't stay there.

She thought he wouldn't make it, as they wheeled him in. But after a transfusion the nurses said he improved remarkably quickly. They were very surprised at his recovery. Needless to say, we're not going to let it happen again. He's going to get his blood checked more often and they got him on 80mg prednizone per day to help with that (which he has to take all at once in the morning). That's a pretty big dose so hopefully that will be only for a few weeks. STill weak from not eating but his strength will come back soon.

I know news about Covid has to be reported, but every day I turn on my local news it's always about how many new cases there are. We have 3 colleges in our town and with students back, the numbers have risen. And now with everybody flocking to the Lake of The Ozarks for Labor Day weekend, it's just going to get worse. Unless the state goes on another complete lockdown until this gets under some kind of control, I don't know what they expect is going to change.

It's just so depressing. As far as things I miss: I miss traveling and staying at hotels, going to events and museums and things. One of my favorite things to do is going to fall festivals and those have been canceled. I go out for drives just for something to do.

You and me both. It’s even more depressing now that summer is ending. Every year, there are always a laundry list of things I look forward to doing in the summer, all of which couldn’t be done this year due to this stupid pandemic. Most of us didn’t predict it was going to drag on for over six months like this, but the reason it did was due to the stubbornness of people in this country. People refuse to do their part to slow the spread. And the stupidity of people during this Labor Day weekend will be a major cause on why this will drag on even longer.

I thought it would drag on, but agree with the rest.

So get tested. It's a easy process and you get results in a couple days.

World Wide Pandemics do not last a couple of months. They last for years (2 to 6 on the average).

At the very beginning of this presentation is a nice graphic of the mechanisms of myocardial injury, including myocarditis, in the setting of COVID-19 - https://acc.bravais.com/s/R1vtBvGV9jFzPwvyPkXS

Another reason I’m posting a link to that ^ presentation is that a cult of anti-statin people (in our current pandemic climate) has taken hold on the internet and their efforts apparently have resulted in some patients inappropriately stopping taking their statins, an outcome which can have lethal consequences

I can sympathize with not taking calls given some of us are still plagued by telemarketing calls ; however, I think it’s a good idea for anyone to remain connected for a few days after any blood tests or imaging examinations, especially if one is symptomatic. UC can be a tough row to hoe. Best wishes to him.

I remember back in March when we started to work from home. Upper management at my company was like, "Everyone can start working from home for safety reasons. Then after a few weeks, people can start coming back to the office as they feel comfortable."

Well that few weeks turned into 6 months and we're still working from home.

The Spanish Flu lasted two years, so two years should be a reasonable expectation. If by 2022, the world isn't back to normal, especially if a vaccine is out by 2021, then something is very very wrong.

agree the trick is to stop it before it becomes uncontrollable.

At this point where my GF works the offices (unless people need to go in-and then they need when and why they need to go in and their name added to a list) are closed until next year.

The issue is this. technically speaking (and assuming the research so far is 100% right) two three weeks of doing the right thing should be enough.

If someone has Covid-19 after two three weeks they are better and can't transmit it any more or they beat covid-19 but they are still in the hospital very damaged and are in the hospital or they are dead.

The trick is to make sure they don't transmit it during the small window of time they are infectious.

Places that had stronger lockdowns (and people that supported them) managed to eliminate it in their lands after a few weeks. The issue is that if we are not all on the same page and there is travel all it needs is a new spark.

Look at New Zealand For over three months there was no community spread but then a traveler brought it in again and there was a flare up again. Taiwan went two months with no new cases....

Yup, and also I would say 1-2 months of EVERYONE wearing masks correctly should be enough as well. But nope, too hard for people to do.

The 1918 Spanish Flu never had a vaccine. It took 2 years of mask wearing, washing hands frequently and social distancing for the pandemic to burn itself out.

Philadelphia decided after a year that they would celebrate their low numbers and have a parade - no masks required. 10 days later infections hit the stratosphere.

Yup and we're supposedly on track for a Coronavirus vaccine by 2021. So with a vaccine, we'd better burn this pandemic out by 2022.

This is why the best way to address a pandemic is to make sure it doesn't happen in the first place. I remember back in November, everyone at my job was pointing and laughing at China about what they were going through. Nobody seemed to have the slightest thought that it would ever reach the U.S. Well hopefully, next time, when there's a contagious virus on the other side of the globe, we won't take it for granted. But seeing that we didn't learn from the Spanish Flu pandemic, then I doubt we'll learn from this one either. So, it will only be a matter of time before we suffer another terrible pandemic and it will be back to square one.

I just got a call from my manager. He told me to be prepared to work from home in the upcoming weeks. He is getting approval, so that I can take a computer for home use.

More information tomorrow.

Professor John Edmunds, who is from the UK, has said in a news interview that he is very worried about the number of cases "increasing exponentially" among 17-21 year olds in the UK with them being infected with Covid & then spreading it to other vulnerable people who are in danger of catching it.

I am not really surprised to hear that the UK is now going through a similar trend in getting increased numbers of new Covid cases beginning to get recorded again on the UK's health service. The rate of infection has begun to rise very strongly again since all those people who are getting infected since they did their unnecessary activities at the height of the summer.

At this point, we shouldn't be experiencing any surges. By now, we should know enough about this virus to take necessary precautions. So I'm a little annoyed hearing this kind of news.
