Yeah, that tidbit was conveniently left off. If people are going to re-post bolded sensationalist headlines please include all the relevant info.

Went in for my first COVID screening last night. I'm more nervous about the results than I was about someone jabbing a stick through my nose. Fingers crossed for a negative.

So??? That makes it ok??

89 years old, 20 years old, or 5 years old, doesn't matter. Getting reinfected is scary and is starting to convince me that reaching any type of herd immunity might not be possible with this virus. And I fear this pandemic will never end.

Congrats!

I'm on pins and needles waiting for my results, which I'm told takes up to 72 hours. I was almost hoping I test positive so I could have some immunity but this thing hits people differently - I can't assume I won't have symptoms or, God forbid, deteriorate to a point where I need a ventilator

My other concern, which is a rather selfish one, is how my co-workers are going to react when they find out (if I test positive). Am I going to be shunned?

I wear my mask all the time when I go out. Not in my car, but in stores. The damn mask makes me sneeze and cough.
The looks I get from people... They look at me like I'm a leper!

Not sure what the disconnect is. We have a case where someone got REINFECTED and DIED. I don't care what race, age or gender that person is. Just the fact that those two things happened is a cause for concern.

This is a cause for panic. People are dying and there's a chance people won't gain immunity to this disease. And immunity is crucial if we want to put an end to this pandemic once and for all. Hearing cases like this where people aren't gaining immunity is very disturbing.

My wife informs me that some hospitals STILL, to this day. don’t have enough PPE and wearing a surgical mask over her N95s helps extend their life –

It's no different than someone with underlying causes dying the first time they get sick.
She got lucky the first time and her body couldn't handle it the second time.
Yeah, it sucks, but that just how it is with this crap.
If you want someone to blame, you know where and who to blame. Certain people and a certain lab. Direct your anger there and not to people here.

If so, here -

If not, google, the recent article in Lancet What Reinfections Mean for COVID-19
Or for some comedy relief , try James Corden’s Maybe I’m Immune parody on YouTube.

And if the virus likely mutates more and more as Dr. Ho predicts in the 60 Minutes interview and vaccines will need to be constantly updated like with flu vaccines….if the virus were to mutate so as to affect all age groups, equally, I wonder whether there will/would be a change in mindset by those who don’t share your sentiment. I'm not specially refering to people here, but society in general, at least in America.

I understand but when we usually get sick with a virus, people usually gain immunity. It's very rare to get sick and then get sick again with that same virus shortly thereafter. So the mere fact that this woman got reinfected means that there's a chance that humans will never gain immunity to this disease. And thus, this pandemic could be everlasting...

She was infected with a completely different strain. The same way the flu can infect someone in different years because they're not the same strain. It's certainly likely that this will evolve to be a yearly thing like the flu, and yearly vaccines will be given as well. It will, or it has, possibly evolved to become less deadly already too.

It's actually entirely plausible that many people have been re-infected by different strains (maybe even more than two), but their body already had some memory of how to fight it off, and it didn't have much of an impact on them for them to even be aware they were infected again. Now that won't be the case with someone who's severely immunocompromised like the 89 year woman who passed while undergoing cancer treatment.

I can believe that. There are talks where that's exactly what happened to the Spanish Flu. Many believe it didn't disappear and just merely evolved into a less deadly strain. I hope that ends up being the case with the Coronavirus.

Just stop with the fear mongering. People going through cancer & chemo (i started 2 days ago) are prone to infections,

People gonna people. In our capital we had hundreds gathering to create what they think is herd immunity when it was just herd mentality.

For some reason they seem to think they can go about their business and that we have an infrastructure capable of handling thousands of deaths a day if the shit really hits the fan.

The second worse things about that lady dying is that she was exposed to the virus for a second time.

Meanwhile in the UK, a small percentage of free testing kits distributed to people in Birmingham had, it turned out, already been used. Many realised the mistake in time, but some people were unaware, and swabbed themselves with already used swabs.

You honestly can’t facepalm enough at the utter ineptitude on display in this country at the moment.

It's pointless Chaotic, you can't reason with the unreasonable. If he can't figure out why and how her advanced age and medical situation doesn't make a difference with a framed headline like this "Woman Dies After Catching COVID-19 for a Second Time" nothing said will change his opinion or mind.

I think this is exactly what will happen with COVID-19 - it will linger but will become less deadly. I think this evolution will happen even before an effective vaccine is created but COVID-19 is obviously much deadlier than the Spanish Flu so maybe this evolution may take a while. From what I hear, a vaccine may not be available for another year or so but, again, by then the virus may peter out.
