According to the Guardian, a number of UK cities are starting to run out of hospital beds due to the '2nd wave' they're experiencing.
Here at home case numbers are back to what they were in March/April at the height, with the onset of Winter they'll likely soon be all time records numbers - thankfully so far our hospitals are far from being at capacity - the damage is more secondary, ie. existing outbreak in Calgary's cancer ward - a number of elective surgeries being cancelled or postponed again, rising absenteeism of health care workers etc. |

The current rate of infection right now clearly indicates that people do not care and are reckless in the behavior. It has nothing to do with the Fall season; it has EVERYTHING to do with behavior. This virus is not seasonal based, so if there are any spikes in infections, it's due to people not social distancing and wearing a mask. |

Second, no one here has the answers, so demanding answers seems silly on your part. Third, concerning your on-going complaints about members "attacking" you. Does their conduct towards you break the forum rules? If the forum rules are broken, then let the moderators take action vs complaining about other's conduct/posts. |

Someone came mighty close.
I don’t think I can link the YouTube video given the scope of this thread as the interview is so entwined with Q&A political overtones, but watch last night’s interview on 60 minutes with Dr. Fauci for the science and more on the essence of COVID-19 and our public health response. They even include a segment from 2016 - “A full four years before COVID-19 caused worldwide devastation, Dr. Fauci told us his greatest fear. Dr. Anthony Fauci in 2016: An influenza-like respiratory-borne virus that's easily transmittable to which the population of the world has very little if any immunity against and that has a high degree of morbidity and mortality. Something similar to the very tragic pandemic flu of 1918.” |

Can you imagine if a good chunk of our service members had become ‘fatigued’ a couple years into WWII and just gave up and deserted the cause? b.t.w., I think we’re now only about 67,000 COVID-19 deaths short of the causality figure for service members who died in battle during World War II from 1941 to 1945.

Yeah, no one can predict the future. But seems like one thing a lot of people can do is deny reality. And they are pretty good at it too.

By and large, it is the 65+ crowd who are dying for any number of reasons: weakened immune systems, nursing homes, non-compliance with masks indoors and outdoors, going outdoors in general. The vast majority of vaccine trial candidates are young healthy people willing to take a vaccine from pharma companies that have no history of a successful drug (Moderna, Novavax). To then say that "well, if you just stormed the beaches of Normandy like we did in '45", even though the greatest generation is mostly already dead and we're talking about saving the boomer generation; is historically inaccurate and somewhat flippant considering the sacrifices of the young people. |

The shelter in place should have been extreme with very few exceptions and lasted only a few weeks. Then you could reapply it more locally as flair ups occur and slowly eliminate covid state by state. The current system is not enforceable and prone to burnout which was predictable back in march. Its not the peoples fault they are burned out from this strategy it was just an awful strategy to begin with. |

My sister has had the virus for 29 days now. That’s some time. She contacted it in hospital (kidney operation) and spent a week in intensive care. She is 52 but with underlying health problems.
We have a Nightingale hospital built for COVID so I don’t understand why that wasn’t utilised to limit the risk. It’s basically a massive risk going into hospital imo. What surprised me about COVID is how it can affect the brain. Delusion, confusion and Hallucinations. Even though my sister got over those symptoms, I fear she will suffer the aftermath of this vicious virus for many years to come. |

Are you really going to quibble with me on this? Look, the point in that analogy was not simply people of draftable age, for I believe that the WWII generation young and old, was by and large more responsible and caring than what we have today. Hell, 10 years ago I found people more courteous to others and less anti-authority than they are now. As opposed to a large portion of others of any age group producing desperate pleas from healthcare providers – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndEe51CSsTEccc#t=1s , I applaud the socially responsible young people you see locally and on national news segments conscientiously doing their part during this pandemic, here and abroad - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post17888220 and I think in general I’ve done more than my share to recognize the young’s potential and value in ways you may have seen if you’d looked – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post18207516 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...t#post16564131 . |
