Excuse me, why did you say "third"? So far I know of just one KL noir boxset (listed on Amazon as Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema)...or did I miss something?

My idea (or I'd rather say 'hope') was that they would group the three titles listed above with the two that came out in late 2015, Pitfall and The Crooked Way. I'm still holding off buying the single releases in the hope that Kino will put out a second noir boxset...

You're right, I got it confused with the Olive box set, which I need to get. I'll be more careful next time.

No problem... For a moment I thought Kino had already announced a second boxset and was trying to guess the titles they could have included... 😀

The Chase is a Kino title, as opposed to a Kino Lorber title. I wouldn't hold my breath for it to be included in a second box set.

I'm going to buy the stand-alone releases of all of these Blu-rays, and I'm really looking forward to doing so. Since I have stand-alone releases of the earlier films noir, there's no need to wait for a second box set.

I feel the same way about waiting. However, I doubt that The Chase will be a part of a hypothetical Noir box, as it's a Kino Classics release rather than a Kino Lorber Studio Classics release. I could be wrong about them not "mixing" the different imprints, but I would be more inclined to think that it would be part of a distinct Kino Classics noir set along with Scarlet Street, The Stranger, They Made Me a Fugitive, and The Hitch-Hiker

I think MisterLime, the Kino rep, implied that they were thinking ahead with regard to a second set, but that it wasn't a done deal, and there was no indication of what they might include.

It sounds more like a done deal than you make it sound. He specifically said it's probably coming Sept. or Oct. when asked.

So I'd say it's for sure coming, but the release date is still up in the air.

Thanks for the heads-up! I went ahead and ordered these 3 as there's no way I could stand the wait for a possible box set. I've been very happy with all of Kino's noir releases thus far.

I'd say Marie Windsor in NO MAN'S WOMAN (1955) ranks up there with the best of the worst. Strangely the film is not included in this thread's list of boxcovers on the first page. It's also much better than the site review makes it out to be, although it has its faults.

The femme fatales in Detour and Decoy are pretty nasty. The B films tend to have the meaner women.

I'm still going through a lot of the classics...good ones in The Killing, Human Desire, and Gun Crazy too. And of course Double Indemnity.

And speaking of noir films not on the first-page list, I don't know whether it's been discussed earlier but THE TRAP (1959) is very noirish if not an outright film noir. It's perhaps more of a crime drama but despite some soap-opera-like plot threads has a very noir-feeling oppressive atmosphere, like VIOLENT SATURDAY, which is on the list (and deservedly so).

And as for NO MAN'S WOMAN, it may be sort of a soap opera in the first half and a police procedural in the second half, but it is much more of a classic noir in themes, characters, and look than something like the more straightforward gangster/police film A BULLET FOR JOEY, which again is also on the list.

Off the top of my head...

Ann Savage in Detour
Claire Trevor in Born to Kill
Jane Greer in Out of the Past
Jean Gillie in Decoy
Joan Bennett in Scarlet Street
Barbara Stanwyck in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and Double Indemnity
Gene Tierney in Leave Her to Heaven
Ava Gardner in The Killers
Jean Simmons in Angel Face
Marie Windsor in The Killing and No Man's Woman

They're all bad, though. You cannot trust any of them.

I may not trust any of them, but I'd sleep with every single one.

I can get behind The Trap and No Man's Woman being added. Any input from others would be welccomed

The Film Noir Foundation has just announced their lineup for their annual Film Noir Festival here in Los Angeles. If you're a Film Noir fan here in L.A., this is the place to be from April 15th-24th :

My top 3 picks are:

Jane Greer in Out of the Past
Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity
Gene Tierney in Leave Her to Heaven

I haven't seen some of the candidates yet like The Killers so Ava Gardner might make my top five in the future.

But if I had to pick only one it would have to be Gene Tierney in Leave Her to Heaven for pure evil.

For me, it's definitely Audrey Totter in Tension.

Audrey Totter as Claire Quimby is a great choice! I'm currently reading Eddie Muller's Dark City Dames: The Wicked Woman of Film Noir and in her chapter she stated that she tried to add a certain dynamic to all the characters she has portrayed in film noir so that they weren't all strictly and seemingly evil playing on the "nobody is all bad" idea other than the woman she played in Tension who was "a b****, plain and simple.". I got a kick out of that.
