I just pre-ordered both of them from Amazon UK, and the total came to $39.21 with shipping to the States, which is only a little more than one of them costs by itself if you buy it from Flicker Alley.
I don't know how I missed this post, but I'm so surprised that the discs are identical, down to even the menu (which uses the Flicker Alley design). I would have thought that there would be some differences between the two in terms of menus, encoding, etc....even if they both stemmed from the same source. It's also a little odd that Arrow listed an image gallery as a special feature, but FA didn't. Since the discs are identical, I imagine they are indeed on the FA disc too? DVDBeaver doesn't mention the gallery in their extras portion of the FA review.

Here's the purchase links for both the Arrow and FA releases.

Kino has just announced Otto Preminger's Daisy Kenyon (1947)! Another from the Fox Film Noir collection. This one toes the line a little more between noir, and drama/romance'

Quote:
Daisy Kenyon (Joan Crawford) is an artist living in Manhattan. She is in love with Dan (Dana Andrews), a busy lawyer who is unhappily married to the volatile Lucille (Ruth Warrick). While Daisy waits for Dan to get a divorce, she begins seeing Peter (Henry Fonda), a veteran recently returned from World War II. After Dan leaves town for a few weeks to defend a dispossessed Japanese-American, Daisy impetuously marries Peter. When Dan returns, the complicated affairs become even more tangled.

Just picked this and the recently announced, I Wake Up Screaming on DVD, as well as quite a few other Fox Noirs. Oh well, At least I can wait for a sale before upgrading.

On another note, I just picked up a few books on film noir, and I thought I would share them. I have just started thumbing through them, so I can't say which is worth while and which is not, but I picked most of them up second hand so I am not out too much in any event. The Eddie Muller ones generally come pretty well recommended from what I can tell.

Those books look pretty cool. Can you take a picture of a page or two of them so I can see if they are worth getting? Specifically the Rought Guide and Style books.

Also, my Amazon gift card birthday haul arrived today:

Does the British box set have English subtitles?

Has the sale actually started yet? The price for 99 River Street is the same as it was yesterday ($16.49).

Yes, that one probably won't drop more since it's a pre-order. That's what I figured at least. It's been that price for a little while now. Most of the others in the sale have dropped a couple of dollars though

The British NOIR DVD set is an excellent deal, five (admittedly peripheral noir) films which stand little chance of ever getting a Blu release (save for MAYBE one or two in the UK). Less than $3 a title and all solid little crime pictures that have no other Region 1 release.

As for picking up individual KINO NOIR titles, I'm on hold at the moment, waiting to see if they will announce a Vol. 2 Box Set collecting five additional titles for a low price. I believe they hinted at one for the fall (?), but haven't heard any updates.

I used the code when ordering Dark Passage and The Chase.

So much Film Noir being released this year that it boggles the mind.

The Big Sleep - Snappy witty dialog, excellent one liners, and conversations where people interrupt each other? Must be a Howard Hawks movie. Better yet, must be a movie that has Humphrey Bogart in it. Seriously, this movie was awesome. I do feel the plot got a little convoluted in a few areas, but that aside, this movie was fantastic from start to finish. I'm curious to see now how Dick Powell pulls off Philip Marlowe since Bogart did a phenomenal job here, but apparently Chandlier likes Powell's performance the best, so we'll see. I give this movie a nice big 9/10.

Kino has just announced their latest Fox Film Noir, The House on 92nd Street (1945)

Quote:
In a story based on actual events, Nazi spies in New York City try to recruit German-American college student Bill Dietrich (William Eythe) at the height of World War II. Dietrich instead offers his services to the FBI as a double agent. Infiltrating the spy ring, which is headquartered in an East 92nd Street townhouse, Dietrich must contend with the house's beautiful owner (Signe Hasso) and, ultimately, a cache of smuggled atomic secrets that could derail the entire American war effort.

Thought about doing that myself. Thanks for doing it for me.

And you got them all. Although I would've listed the unnumbered ones -- Moontide and Road House -- at the end, since they were the last ones issued.

Now if we could only get Universal to release -- or license out -- their four Noir-bannered titles: Black Angel, Criss Cross, This Gun for Hire, and The Big Clock.
