A few pieces of news, courtesy of the Indicator thread.

First, Indicator will be releasing two films of interest to noir aficionados. Town on Trial (1957) is listed on IMDb as a noir (although that doesn't mean much), and Gumshoe (1971) is an homage/send-up of the private eye noirs of the 40s and 50s.

Also, if you're planning on picking up Indicator's limited editions of Mickey One (1965) and Bunny Lake is Missing (1965), they're down to their last few hundred copies of each, so don't delay. Both are available for import from Amazon UK.

Where Danger Lives is showing on TMC right now. It's another fun "This will not end well." noir starting Robert Mitchum.

Faith Domergue (It Came from Beneath the Sea, This Island Earth) was a true beauty, even if she was not the greatest actress. I hope that somebody releases Cult of the Cobra on Blu-ray soon.

I've got this set on the DVR right now. I can't remember if I've seen it before or not. A lot of the lesser known noirs blend together for me at times, even ones with Mitchum.

Where Danger Lives is a solid "chicks be tripping" movie, because Faith Domergue's character is so crazy. Claude Rains has a great appearance early in the film as her ill-fated husband.

Robert Mitchum gets some good one-liners in.

If you buy it now you'll be getting a....raw deal, but it should drop to $23.31 or so by the next DD sale in February, in line with the 42% discount on their other $40 Classic Flix titles, meaning it would be just under $20 with the 15% off. That's what I'm waiting for.

I would also check whenever you see one of those ebay $15 off $75, if you can combine that with the Blowitoutahere 20% off deals. I picked up You Only Live Once, T-Men, and He Walked by Night for around $46.

Always sad to hear about stars from old Hollywood passing away. If theres any small consolation it seems many of the femmes fatale from B-noir seem to live to a great old age.

While this has admittedly been covered a few times before, I wanted to bring up the topic of western noirs. One of the highlights of the Warner box sets for me was Border Incident. I know it's not precisely a western but it occured to me while watching it that there may be such a thing as a western noir and that I should look into it.

So, I finally got around to doing that and I've just finished watching Raoul Walsh's Pursued which I enjoyed but it didn't blow me away. My next obvious choice is the Robert Wise picture Blood on the Moon, although it seems that streaming it on Google Play is the only way to purchase it legitimately in Canada. I'm surprised Warner Archive hasn't done anything with it on either DVD or Blu-ray.

How do you folks rate these films? Have I missed any obvious choices? I know this is a sub-genre (if you can even call it that) with very few films to its credit but since I'm a fan of both westerns and film noirs, I couldn't let it go without doing a bit of poking around.

The Ox-Bow Incident is fantastic. Treasure of the Sierra Madre also has a lot of the kind cynicism and desperation that often defines noir.

Take a look at the Dick Powell movie Station West; he dons a Stetson just as well as he does a fedora. (Of note is his fight scene with legendary bit player Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams.) Burl Ives plays a small role as a crooning bartender.

Speaking of Ives, he co-starred with Robert Ryan in one of my favorite westerns, the dark and noirsh Day of the Outlaw.

Ramrod
Yellow Sky
Terror in a Texas Town

I would check out these three if you haven't already.

I agree with an above poster that Ramrod and Yellow Sky are both solid western-noir films.

I also think that Man of the West (1958) has a noir edge to it.

The 1953 film, Blowing Wild, is a unique mix of western and noir in a similar way to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, although it's not quite as effective.

The Film Noir Foundation mentioned that their new restoration of The Man Who Cheated Himself (which premieres in a few weeks at Noir City 16) will be getting a BD release from Flicker Alley later this year: https://www.facebook.com/filmnoirfou...2%3A%22R%22%7D

I would love a stacked release of this. Here's hoping it's one of the Warners Criterion or somebody can get their hands on (along with I Am A Fugitive..., Good Diggers of 1933, and Wild Boys of the Road, along others)
