It looks like we have another neo-noir for the list. I'd never heard of it prior to the site review.

The independent filmmaker in me wants to congratulate the people who pulled this together and cheer them on, but I can't muster the enthusiasm. Trouble Is My Business is an amateur digital movie, equivalent to a high school play, only the film buffs who made it are too old for high school and much too old for the twenty/thirty-somethings they're playing. It is never convincing. The actor's don't have the range or experience and the director doesn't have the skills. It's amateur. They're just posturing and mimicking old movies they've seen. The title is taken from a short story and a compilation by Raymond Chandler but it's not based on either, although it cherry picks ideas here and there. You might have fun picking out which movie they stole this & that from. This is not a neo-noir so much as an imitation of a classic noir.

If you must add a new neo-noir to the list you have CHINA MOON and BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA or the remarkable TV series MAGIC CITY. They're authentic.

Neo-noirs don't need to be good to be added to the list.

Also, weren't you happy to move on from discussing Garcia? Do you want to irritate everyone else so much that you get banned from this forum, just like you've apparently been banned from every other major A/V forum on the internet?

Well, so far all the neo-noirs added on the list have been the real thing, not high-school imitations with a camera. If amateur projects qualify there a lot more that can be added. It's a silly effort, but if you add it while denying the real thing what does that say about the list?

As for the personal attack, it's not true. It's really nasty of you to keep insisting. I thought personal attacks weren't allowed here. It won't help you win a debate or to discredit me. I realize noirjunkie you've got it in for me no matter what. You have only to go back to a few pages to see the enthusiasm I came in here with. I'm here to stay, and I'll say what I know is right regardless of your bullying.

Sidney Lumet directed a several neo-noirs that haven't appeared on bluray yet. But a few of them have -- THE ANDERSON TAPES and THE OFFENSE both with Sean Connery, and BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD with Albert Finney.

THE PAWNBROKER has often been discussed in terms of a noir, which it is, although it's other things before it's a noir.

How is The Offence noir?

You know what, nevermind...it's starting to become apparent that everything falls under the umbrella of "noir" to you.

Guys, can we get Yankee Doodle Dandy and Adventureland updated on the list ASAP? And don't forget Great Ball of Fire while you're at it!

Sheesh!
So now I can't even open a discussion without being attacked?
No, everything is not noir to me.
That is a ridiculous thing to say.

My suggestions were sincere and made in good faith.

Noirjunkie, you've really hurt me with these attacks. Your dictatorial attitude and post-sniping was not necessary at the outset. You miserable jerk.

Under the circumstances, I voluntarily withdraw from this thread.

A few pages ago there was some talk about noir books. My favorite is Naremore's More Than Night. Highly recommended.

Ooooh. I didn't realize Naremore had written a whole book on noir. I picked up his book on acting after enjoying his Sweet Smell of Success commentary and have liked it so far. I'll have to grab that one, too!

Just a heads-up, Kino are having a huge sale on pretty much every title on their site that runs for most of June. Several of their film noir titles are included:

None of the ones I want/don't have. Seems I'm never going to find a package to get free shipping from these sales.

I picked up Big House, USA and Storm Fear from this sale. Now if only Olive Films have a sale, so many Noirs I want to get from them.

The Man Who Watched Trains Go By (1952) should be added to the list. Well done British noir film shot in Technicolor.
