We might be talking about two different sets. This is on Blu-ray (2016 release), and has Big House USA, A Bullet for Joey, He Ran All the Way, Storm Fear, and Witness to Murder. The reviews on this site do appear to give the PQ "watchable" scores for each film (3/5, 3/5, 3.5/5, 4/5, 4/5). The one I'm most interested in is He Ran All the Way, since it has John Garfield.

EDIT: It looks like I got the title slightly wrong and referenced this set by mistake. Sorry for the confusion: https://www.amazon.com/Film-Noir-Hol...e+of+hollywood
Yes, Kino has released two sets with similar titles. The blu-ray box set that's on sale for $30 is definitely worth that price. The DVD set is another matter (but it's out of print, so it's a moot point).

I bought the Kino DVD set a few years back when I was scrambling to stockpile a lot of film noir movies before they went out of print.

I was pretty fortunate to get Kino's Film Noir: The Dark Side of Hollywood set and the Columbia Pictures Film Noir Classics III set.

The Warner Bros Film Noir Classic Collection - Volume 2 was also a bear to get, but it's still decently available from third-party retailers.

Certain titles in these box sets might or might not see the light of day on Blu-ray in the future. I'm glad that I acted when I did.

The Columbia set is thankfully back in print. For a while, it was going for about $200.

Here is my Noir DVD box set collection.

Although I have several of these titles now on Blu-ray, I doubt that many of them will ever be upgraded. The first Warners set and the 10-movie Universal set are the closest to being completed.

Super cool collection and almost identical to mine.

I wish they would release The Set-Up from the first Warner's Box on blu ray.

Alright, if we're doing this...

I'll see your Warner, Columbia, Universal, Kino sets and raise you the Fox series.

I'm sitting pretty good on actually watched. Still need to finish WB vol 5 and Columbia vol 3 and 4 (half way through 3). Universal is watched. Still need to finished a bit less than half of the fox titles and a few titles in the kino sets.

Of course I've upgraded some of these to Blu-ray and now debate whether to get rid of needless DVDs or keep them around for the sake of completion...

I have these, the Fox Noirs and the Columbia sets

Warner Archive are slowly tricking out the Warner ones.

Between Fox, Kino and UK Boutique labels we are about a quarter of the way through the Fox Noirs

Hoping Powerhouse in the UK can get some Columbia/Universal Noirs out ..

Lady From Shanghai & The Big Heat were among their early releases and they just upgraded the Fuller set (that TCM/Columbia put out on DVD some years ago) which contains Crimson Kimono and Underworld USA on it.

... Question though. Is Vicki any good? Almost bought it a few times, but reviews don't make it sound particularly interesting

Good news for region B folks, Indicator/Powerhouse will be releasing Fritz Lang's Ministry of Fear in the UK on August 20th. Unlike the Criterion edition, this one includes quite a nice array of extras. I do believe it will be region B locked, but we'll know for sure when it comes out.

Quote:
INDICATOR LIMITED EDITION SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • 2K Restoration
  • Original mono audio
  • Audio commentary with author and film historian Neil Sinyard
  • Tony Rayns on Fritz Lang and ‘Ministry of Fear’(2018): a newly filmed appreciation and analysis by the film historian
  • Graham Greene and ‘Ministry of Fear’(2018): Adrian Wootton, OBE, author of The Films of Graham Greene and CEO of Film London, discusses Greene's long and rich relationship with the cinema.
  • 1949 NBC University Theatre radio play adaptation
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • Image gallery: promotional photography and publicity material
  • New and improved English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing
  • Limited edition exclusive booklet with a new essay by Neil Sinyard, an overview of contemporary critical responses and historic articles on the film
  • UK premiere on Blu-ray
  • Limited Edition of 3,000 copies
All extras subject to change

I got on the bandwagon late, so I've passed on the sets that have seen majority upgrades.

Vicki is a poor (IMHO) reworking of Laura. Its not very interesting for completists only as far as I'm concerend.

I'd grab the Powerhouse (UK) Fuller set as it covers everything on the DVD set you (and I have the DVD too) have and upgrades it to sumptuous HD

I'm too lazy to take a photo of my film noir DVD collection, but you can see it by clicking on the DVD Collection link underneath my username to the left, since my DVD collection is roughly 75% films noir from the classic era.

These are the ones I've watched.

These need to be watched although I've seen many of them already.

I just finished watching Odds Against Tomorrow. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this film before it was mentioned here. That film is pure greatness! This thread is paying dividends. My affection for Noir continues to deepen. Thank you.

One of my favorites. I bought both the domestic and the Region B Blu-rays just so I could have both aspect ratios.

Would Kino ever release another volume of Film Noir: The Dark Side of Cinema?

Where the hell is THE FACE BEHIND THE MASK (1941)? It's one of the finest noirs produced, yet it has had no official release on any format anywhere in the world in the entire forty year history of home video. C'mon, Sony.
