As discussed in the Criterion thread, the latest hint from their newsletter is undoubtedly for Carol Reed's "Odd Man Out"
![]() There have been some Region B releases out already, but this is great news for the US. Last edited by MifuneFan; 11-02-2014 at 05:48 PM. |

![]() ![]() Calling all noir fans: The Girl Hunters, a U.S.-British production starring writer Mickey Spillane playing his own creation Mike Hammer, is sometimes listed as a 1960s noir and sometimes as a crime thriller. A search online shows it listed in various sources as a definite noir. I don't see it on the first page. I suspect it is one of those crossover titles with one foot in both genres, although I have never seen it so I cannot make a judgment where it falls. However, since it has just dropped to $12.69 on amazon (and is a limited edition of 2000 from Scorpion Releasing) I just bought a copy and will weigh in with my opinion when it arrives ![]() Mike Hammer is best known on film from Ralph Meeker's tough guy portrayal in Kiss Me Deadly. |

I did some brief searches when it was first announced, and I didn't get a lot of definitive answers about it being a film noir or not, so I didn't add it then. I suppose I should've just asked you guys first, what does everyone think?

I just placed an order for The Girl Hunters after being on the fence for a while. It's amazing how a $12.69 sale can get me off of a fence pretty quickly.
The presence of Shirley Eaton (Goldfinger) in the movie was the final straw, though. |

Added Reindeer Games (2000) and Cold in July (2014) to the neo-noir list. Credit to noirjunkie for the suggestions

Anyone know anything about these mythical Film Detective releases: Hollw Triumph, Beat the Devil, and Salt of the Earth? Supposedly being released tomorrow but nothing anywhere on the internet about how to order? And now the thread regarding Hollow Triumph seems to have been deleted by this site. Something fishy is going on here...
[Edit, sorry the thread for Hollow Triumph is still on the site, just is no longer linked from the film's page. So I'll backpedal on the conspiracy theories, but I still find it puzzling there is ZERO ordering info anywhere on the web on the day prior to the alleged release date, not even on the film detective website, amazon, or anywhere.] Last edited by usuallee; 11-24-2014 at 01:52 PM. |

He took some flak on the D.O.A thread about the proposed use of DNR and BD-R's for these releases and got a little defensive. I wonder if they've went back to the drawing board. It would be nice to know something. |

BTW found this in the Hollow Triumph thread in case any one missed it, a response from The Film Detective: Default Blu-ray Release Update Just wanted to give everyone an update. The blu-ray releases are being delayed, as we were very interested in getting as much feedback from everyone as possible and accordingly improving our final releases. The good news is we will be releasing Beat the Devil in its original aspect ratio, Salt of the Earth, and Hollow Triumph at the end of the year. These will all have closed captions and we will be using no noise reduction on any of the transfers for blu-ray. We appreciate all the feedback and encouragement. The discs will be distributed and manufactured as originally planned by Allied Vaughn. |
