Ewwwwwwwwww. WHy does it take so long to go up for preorder?

BTW, that Film Noir book I mentioned I got almost two weeks ago is not allowed to be returned. They wouldn't even let me exchange it for a new copy even though the binding is jacked up on mine. I think I'm going to no longer shop at B&N since their lack of a return policy is archaic. This is 2015 NOT 1915. Not allowing a return for something purchased not even two weeks ago is unacceptable.

Because Fox wasn't interested in doing it themselves, and Twilight Time went after the license.

Where do I go to preorder this thing? Can I get it from Amazon?
As previously mentioned, all Twilight Time titles can be ordered from Screen Archives Entertainment. They are not available from Amazon proper, although SAE maintain an Amazon Marketplace store. It's no more convenient (or cheaper) than ordering straight from SAE.

Because that's the way Twilight Time does it. They're a small outfit. They announce forthcoming titles 3-4 months ahead of time, and start take pre-orders roughly two weeks ahead of the release dates. You wouldn't be getting them before the release date in any event, so why should it matter when you're able to pre-order them?

Before you get too excited about this, you should probably read the first post in the Twilight Time thread. That gives you the information you need about TT, and how to order their releases. You might decide that they're too expensive to bother with.

House of Bamboo is actually one of my least favorite 20th Century Fox Noirs. I wonder why they chose this one. Where The Sidewalk Ends or Call Northside 777 would have been better choices.

Nice to see any noir get a announced at this point, it seems there has been a real dry spell for noir titles recently.

Because I get paid on the 20th of every month from Sept through June. I don't get paychecks in July and Aug because I don't work in June and July. As such, I budget everything based on my preorders months in advance.

Two solutions:

(1) You budget it now, and just set aside the $35 in a virtual piggy bank. to be used when the pre-order goes up.

(2) Wait until your September paycheck and order a copy then.

Agree wholeheartedly, especially Where the Sidewalk Ends. Although my most wanted Fox Noir is Kiss of Death.

Interesting because House of Bamboo is on my 50 noirs list and neither of those are.

Secret option: wait a while until another label releases it and boycott TT's nonsense unless it's absolutely necessary

Here's hoping Eureka grabs it.

Good news, Criterion will be upgrading The Killers (1946 / 1964) to BD in July . The movies were previously released in the UK (with different extras).

  • Andrei Tarkovsky’s short film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s “The Killers,” made when he was a student in 1956
  • Interview from 2002 with writer Stuart M. Kaminsky about both films
  • Piece from 2002 in which actor Stacy Keach reads Hemingway’s short story
  • Screen Director’s Playhouse radio adaptation from 1949 of the 1946 film, starring Burt Lancaster and Shelley Winters
  • Interview from 2002 with actor Clu Gulager
  • Audio excerpt from director Don Siegel’s autobiography, A Siegel Film, read by actor and director Hampton Fancher
  • Trailers
  • PLUS: Essays by novelist Jonathan Lethem and critic Geoffrey O’Brien

In other words, you'd rather spend $39.95 (minus whatever discount you get from your retailer of choice) each for two separate releases than $39.95 (ditto) for both movies together?

Exactly. You're getting two films for the price of one. What's to hate?

I've read that the 1964 version is going to be 1.33:1 which is a disappointment for me. I know that the film was originally planned for a TV release, but they decided the film was to violent for the small screen and so released it widescreen theatrically.
I'll buy it anyway mostly to get The Killers (1946) in HD.

You do realize that a widescreen version would just be the 1.33:1 version masked off to create a wider ratio, right? You'd actually be missing part of the image that was intended to be seen?

Maybe you haven't noticed...that the 1964 version of The Killers was NOT shot widescreen...it was shot in 1.37:1...
