Hence the reason the team makes sure to keep everything logically viable within the dream spaces. It's a completely controlled endeavour to keep the dreamer from knowing that it's a dream. And, you can't keep someone from knowing it must be a dream if you have someone flying or taking a full clip of bullets in the head without dying. They must follow the rules of reality to be successful. .

Please explain then...

[Show spoiler]Why can they float in a gravity free environment? Why do they witness streets folding and cars driving on the ceiling? Would these events not shock you into awareness that you are in a dream, someone elses, or your own?

[Show spoiler]These things only happen in training exercises and in other specific circumstances. Arthur floating around and fighting with no gravity wouldn't shock him because it was his dream and it wouldn't shock anyone else because they were asleep or projections.

[Show spoiler]I think this can all be easily explained/dismissed in knowing that dreams are very strange, but we don't notice that they are strange until we wake up. There is a big difference between a dream being changed and our dream-selves realizing they are being intentionally manipulated. Only the subconscious can determine for sure which is which in a dream, and we have no control over that.

Edit: In other words

[Show spoiler]knowing that you are in a dream doesn't necessarily shock your subconscious, but rather certain elements of the dream that we take for granted but our subconscious knows is out of place is what ultimately shocks us. The specific kicks are much more punctual than losing gravity, etc. I will say, though, that they should have all been 'kicked' back into the first level when the windows of the van were shattered and they all started to get wet. After all, feeling moisture should have kicked them immediately.

What in the hell does being an architecht have to do with being shocked or not?

[Show spoiler]Finding out that you are dreaming doesn't wake you up! Being shocked that you're dreaming doesn't wake you up. However, physical shocks DO.

By the way, SquidPuppet, thank you for recommending Triangle in this thread. I have watched it twice since you posted about it, and both times my mind was blown. It satisfied my urge for a cerebral thriller in ways Inception could never do.

[Show spoiler]She was in his dream. Got it. But she was dreaming as well. She was dreaming IN his dream. And wouldnt the discovery that you are dreaming, AND dreaming inside someone elses dream be a bit shocking? Perhaps enough to jar you?

I agree, thats what the science of it all is supposed to be. But thats a weakness of the film for me.

[Show spoiler]Although she is in HIS dream, the logic that he controls everything doesnt work for me. Especially when she becomes aware of her state (dreaming as well, and in his dream). What prevents her from awakening? How is Leo able to prevent her from awakening?
