Afterall, for the military, it was the first time going into this stuff - in Inception, these guys knew what to expect and it was still quite baffeling at times, in a prequel they would be seeing/experiencing everything for the first time - learning what they could do, learning the dangers. Not to mention, the idea was for them to enter the dream and kill eachother. I can only imagine things went horribly wrong. ![]() |

Did anyone else notice that the writers had Leo D saying A LOT of "opposite of what he said in Titanic" lines?!?!
Titanic - "Don't Let Go Rose!" Inception - "I have to let you go!" There are more, but it cracked me up in this movie cause I was like -- did the writers REALLY just DO that?!?! ![]() |

The numbers for his two missing movies on that list:
Following - $48,482 (no foreign number) Insomnia Domestic: $67,355,513 59.2% + Foreign: $46,359,317 40.8% = Worldwide: $113,714,830 http://boxofficemojo.com/people/char...ophernolan.htm ____ His movies have done very well for themselves considering budget and release size. Title ----peak theater count----gross----budget Following (2 theaters) - $48,482 on a $6,000 budget (8.08x its budget) Memento (531 theaters) - $39,723,096 on a $9M budget (4.41x its budget) Insomnia (2,610 theaters) - $113,714,830 on a $46M budget (2.47x its budget) Batman Begins (3,858 theaters) - $372,710,015 on a $150M budget (2.48x its budget) The Prestige (2,305 theaters) - $109,676,311 on a $40M budget (2.74x its budget The Dark Knight (4,366 theater) - $1,001,921,825 on a $185M budget (5.42x its budget) Inception so far (3,792 theater) - $364,813,741 on a $160M budget (2.28x its budget) They were all (with the exception of maybe Batman Begins and Insomnia) in the black before they left theaters, and if BB and Insomnia weren't they were incredibly close. Finally got around to see Inception to day and totally loved it...a movie that if you miss a frame would totally unravel in front of you. I have to say the Nolan brothers are the best at what they do right now...and if they keep making movies like this..they have along way to go..
Leonardo Dicaprio is becoming one of the great actors of his time..and one of my favorites... |

It's interesting that Inception had a smaller budget than The Dark Knight. The former looks more expensive than the latter. Even The Prestige looks far more expensive than it truly was. Nolan really knows how to put every last penny on the screen whilst somehow still appearing, for lack of a better word, restrained.

I thoroughly enjoyed Inception and am perfectly happy that what I saw on the screen was what happened.
The end is real and the cut to black while the top was spinning was just a sly wink from the director. And to be fair, it does start to wobble before the screen goes black. We never saw the kids during the dreams, only at the end, which was real. Otherwise, if it's all a dream then the movie loses all its credibility as everything that happened was for nothing. That's not a satisfying story. I loved the three layers with their different "time spans", the whole "floating" set piece in the hotel while the van was falling was superb. Great film, a day one purchase on blu. |

BB looked a lot more expensive to make to me, with the narrows looking amazing. There was nothing like that in TDK. I guess the money was just all the imax stuff, and the actual production work, but theres not even many special effects in that movie at all. Inception definitely looks a lot more expensive to me. |

![]() I guess you missed the part where he: [Show spoiler] Obviously, there was more than that - but I think the big difference is using practical effects instead of CGI, lots of real locations. And, of course, using the IMAX cameras. To me, it felt like the Dark Knight put it's money on the screen. |

Ok, debating endings aside, I have a question:
When the van with the sleepers on the "1st level" spins around a corner, the dreamers on the "2nd level" feel the change of gravity. When it falls, they're weightless. During this scene, why is it that the sleepers on the "3rd level" in the snow did not have any averse effects of gravity? Either they should be affected by the 1st level's van, or the 2nd levels' lack of gravity via the occurrences of the 1st level. That's why I've been calling this "near perfect". That issue has bothered me a bit. Now, as far as endings go, I think people are trying too hard to read into hidden subplots and additional levels of inceptions and subterfuge. I think the ending is in the real world, though I definitely appreciate that it's left to doubt via the ending scene. |
