During this scene, why is it that the sleepers on the "3rd level" in the snow did not have any averse effects of gravity? Either they should be affected by the 1st level's van, or the 2nd levels' lack of gravity via the occurrences of the 1st level.

That's why I've been calling this "near perfect". That issue has bothered me a bit.

Now, as far as endings go, I think people are trying too hard to read into hidden subplots and additional levels of inceptions and subterfuge. I think the ending is in the real world, though I definitely appreciate that it's left to doubt via the ending scene.
The events carry through to a lesser degree through multiple levels, but still carry through. For example, the avalanche was caused by events higher up in the chain.

BB looked a lot more expensive to make to me, with the narrows looking amazing. There was nothing like that in TDK. I guess the money was just all the imax stuff, and the actual production work, but theres not even many special effects in that movie at all. Inception definitely looks a lot more expensive to me.

I guess you missed the part where he:
[Show spoiler]
  • Drives over cars and fights in the parking garage
  • Drives through traffic against semi's
  • Uses the motorcycle (a real one) to go through buildings and destroyed tons of cars in his path
  • Flips a real semi-truck in the middle of the city (not CGI)
  • Enters a high-rise building and expects after blowing up the windows and tagging onto to a plane.
  • We see probably one of the biggest explosions ever with that hospital
  • He fights off good and bad guys using Sonar tech.

Obviously, there was more than that - but I think the big difference is using practical effects instead of CGI, lots of real locations. And, of course, using the IMAX cameras.

To me, it felt like the Dark Knight put it's money on the screen.
No need to be facetious. Clearly his point is that in Batman Begins Chicago was effectively used as a tool to create a believable Gotham City whereas in The Dark Knight it simply looks like Chicago. Overall, the production design was much better in Batman Begins.

But as clealry evidenced by Inception, Nolan has not lost his knack for using real world locations to feel both believable and just a bit surrealistic. He's a very tasteful director and he keeps me anticipating what he'll do next.

That's true- such as Saito's injuries. Still, going from NO gravity to FULL gravity... I dunno. It's a stretch. As I mentioned it's not one that I mind much but the rules seem to be ignored when convenient.

Exactly my point. It came off as very lazy when I recognized buildings in TDK. What the hell kind of batman movie is that? BB was great, it had the narrows which looked fantastic, not like anything ive seen on earth, all the China stuff, none of which I recognized.

Everytime I was TDK I see the same freaking road I had a hotdog on 6 months ago when I was there. Terrible. I dont recognize anything in BB, and thats how I like it. Take me somewhere ive never been, not to Chicago.

Batman standing on the sears tower? Ugh. Love when he gets to Hong Kong and you can see the damn Kodak building. Cant they photoshop some original signs in there or something, so I dont have to think its hong kong, but just some other place that doesnt really exist?

But he IS in Hong Kong. I'm not gonna argue with the first part of your comment, because you totally have a point, but Batman is in Hong Kong in that scene.

BB has cheaper effects than TDK, because CGI is cheaper than practical effects. The beautiful digital models in BB cost a fraction of the rampant prop destruction in TDK.

Yep, it's supposed to be Hong Kong. What sense would there be in making it look like a fantasy city?

Honest questions are great, but can we please get past the wise-arse devil's-advocate nitpickery?

I wasn't being facetious - and no, his point was not about which was used effectively, it was about "expense", which was what I was responding to. And as far as which had better "production design" - that is pure opinion.

I agree. There is no other director out now that I look forward to seeing what they'll do next then Nolan.

Uh, Lau clearly says in the movie itself that he's going to Hong Kong.

You don't know that it's FULL gravity. Everybody could've weighed 60 lbs

1. Can we stop talking about the Dark Knight now?

Canada As was the case with Bale's voice once the hype died down...

To transition from one movie to the next, Inception is starting to become the trendy thing to find faults in I see. One girl on my Facebook keeps posting parodies that seem ridiculous.

Yeah, they would've, but I was jokin around with the 60 lbs too.

Either they missed the gravity detail entirely on level 3 of the dream (great catch btw), or they just figured that level 3 was so deep they would each weigh almost all of their weight, so not a big enough difference to show - not like Seito's wound, which by that time, was at the edge of dying, so it had to make an impact, but if a 200 lb guy weighs, say, 160 lbs, it wouldn't really translate to a moon walking effect. I do agree that, if it wasn't an oversight by the producers, it would've been funny to hear a comment by someone in the form of "...hey, do you feel light headed?..." somewhere in there.

That's true of any popular movie. It's not an admirable personality trait. Seems like the better the movie, the more cheap satisfaction insecure people seek from trying to take it down a peg.
