We never really know the answer to your first question. Another company had hired them to obtain some information (corporate espionage), but they failed. That's why they were on the run early in the movie when Saito showed back up and offered to hire them. I forget the name of the company that hired them, but it's specifically mentioned a couple of times by name.

Not really sure about your second question.

[Show spoiler]Cobol Engineering. To leave limbo you first have to realize you are dreaming and then you have to die.

that doesnt make any sense though... ok, technically, Saito didnt even need to be there at all.... so, say he kills himself in Limbo... he would wake up in reality? correct? so he would be sitting on the plane.... how does that affect the overall plan??

[Show spoiler]Well they figured it out the first time when they were doing dream studies, he just went down there later to find Saito and get back to his kids. They don't fully explain how you can get to the third level and then to limbo but I try not to think too much about that.

they explain how you get to limbo.... they were heavily sedated and when you die under that sedation, you go to limbo.... but i dont understand why he doesnt know hes in limbo... although i vaguely remember them saying that you can wake up confused not knowing what is going on? something along those lines

I think getting into limbo also has to do with the fact that the architect (Ellen Page) had only designed three levels of dreams. If you go beyond the third pre-designed level then limbo is all that's left.

[Show spoiler]He probably knew but one minute is 10 years down there so he could've still been getting over the grogginess and still aged 30 years.

i suppose that makes sense... but doesnt affect what happened in the movie... regardless of what level you are on... if you die under heavy sedation... you go into limbo... which he was told before he died... so he either had "amnesia" or i dont understand why he wouldnt kill himself

[Show spoiler]The man had just died so he was probably getting over the shock of that and then I'm guessing the shock of aging years in a manner of seconds hit him, he was probably in a good deal of distress.

Definitely, but I still think that has to do with the fact that you're leaving the pre-designed dream level/s when you die in the dream. The sedative prevents you from waking up therefore limbo is where you (or your mind) ends up by default.

Now that I think about it more and more I think you also have to take the timing of the sedative into account in the movie.
[Show spoiler]They were given enough sedative to keep them under for several hours in the real world. Even if they had killed themselves/died while in limbo their bodies/minds would still have been unable to wake up due to the sedative. With the way the movie worked out, they didn't try killing themselves to leave limbo until the very end of the movie, which is when the sedative would have been wearing off anyway.

wait, you think he aged all of a sudden? thats not what i got... if so, wouldnt Leo had aged? i think he was just down there longer then Leo and had aged... but in Limbo time, it felt as if hed been there for 50 years... which is why he didnt recognize Leo at first...

That's what I thought also, but I never got the impression that Saito didn't recognize Leo. As soon as he saw Leo's totem he ordered to have him brought in to see him.
