I'm not talking about the ending,
[Show spoiler]I think we were saying that he was in limbo the whole movie, which isn't possible as there are too many shots of his totem falling over for it to be that.

[Show spoiler]There is one part where he spins it then his wife flashes in the window, his father walks in and he picks it up before it really gets going.

[Show spoiler]Missed that part but there are still too many parts where you see it falling that makes it not possible
, and did anyone else feel kinda shocked that they manged to get quite a bit of blood in this. Like I'm not sure how much you can get away with in a PG-13 film but it should be just a little less stricter than a 12A (which is what it got over here)

To be honest, it felt like a LOT of stylized action, which you can jam a lot of into a PG-13 film before the MPAA will say anything.

This thread is starting to remind me of the thread for The Prestige with all the theories flying around and trying to figure out every detail. It's great! Just shows the complexity of the story and how tight and subtle Nolan's film is.

I really want to hear Nolan talk about this, especially the ending (which I'm sure he will never give a definitive answer on). Really hoping for a commentary.

There should be some kind of poll because I'm hearing some people say 'it is definitely this' and some people saying it is ambiguity without an answer. I know what I want to believe
[Show spoiler]happy ending

[Show spoiler]I honestly don't think it can really have a happy ending without somehow bringing Mal back to life.

[Show spoiler]happy ending
I think that's my problem with the ending,
[Show spoiler]I dunno if I want it to be happy or false, I'd like to see the character get the happy ending he deserves yet don't believe it as you never see the Totem fall over, therefore he was in a dream, which is the one twist I didn't want to be pulled on us.

[Show spoiler]I think the best theory is that the ending is just a metaphor that he's reached his dream in life, and the slight dip of the top of the Totem shows that he is in the real world though
.

I thought it was just very quickly cut,
[Show spoiler]like the start when Ken Watanabe's character shoots Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the knee, and you see blood burst out, it was pretty strong, and wouldn't be allowed in a normal 12A movie
.

I never saw any blood. I will say, for the most part there wasn't any killing and I think there was little to no strong language and very minimal sensuality.

theres been much more blood in PG13 movies over this one, nolan never really uses any blood in his movies.. remember Dark Knight and Batman Begins they had basically nothing... Iron Man 2 had a lot of blood for PG13.. i cant think of too many off hand cuz im drunk.. but i will come back to this, i know there is more out there.

I suppose that is true. Of the two basic ending proposed (I know it gets trickier than 2) there is happy vs dark in my opinion.

YES! I do like that proposed idea that
[Show spoiler] it as a metaphor
, but that seems to really go outside Nolan's Realism that he has an intense skill for.

Yeah, if it had bad launguage they may have pumped it up, I think it maybe because they are in a dream world therfore making all the death fantasy, but that sounds like grasping at straws to me to make this a 12A.

In my opinion the best movie of the year so far and not even close. Its nice to see a movie that actually makes people scratch their heads a little bit. Can't wait to see it again. Awesome.

Odd, I don't remember scratching my head at all while watching this, I did fidget in my seat a lot though.

Ok, I gave this movie a 4 out of 5 but barely...maybe 3.8. The movie is soft on the edges and spends too much time "telling" the audience whats going on. It reminded me of the first time I played TOMB Raider. ENOUGH with the explaining and tutorials. LET ME PLAY. DiCaprio delivers his usual solid performance, although I cannot say the same for the Mutt face JUNO girl...I swear she looks bored in every movie I see her in...and this one is no different. The premise of the movie is fun but at some point the dream within a dream within a dream of a dream seems endless and borderline nonsensical. If Martin Luther King were alive he might be saying, WTF kinda a dream you havin? Looks nothing like mine. Anyway, turn your brain off and go see this one but don't fall asleep...you might wake up at work or somewhere worse.

Wow, I have to say I'm not sure that you and I watched the same movie because that's not what I took away from it at all and I'm pretty sure most of the people who have seen it didn't take that away from it either.

It's possible that he chose his totem in the dream state, thus it can only show him when he is double-dreaming. It is also possible that if he is convinced he is in reality, he can "make" the totem fall (considering he can reshape the earth).

I am starting to lean towards #4 now though.

Also, did anyone guess
[Show spoiler]that Ken Watanabe was the old man at the start, I was wary when I first saw him, but the thing which sold it was when Leo Dicaprio said that in Limbo you will live into an old man.
