See, this point is a matter of perspective. For me Inception is better classified as "A MIND TRIP." For me, "A MIND F***" is something that has you change your perspective on your entire existence; as The Matrix did. I still question whether my environment is real or a computer program sometimes. Inception does nothing of the sort. But, Inception does make you work your head around the notion of the subconscious mind and how it tries to communicate with the conscious mind. THAT is something that makes you go, "Hmmmmmmmmm.... very intriguing and very plausible." But, it doesn't affect your perceptions on the actual reality within which we exist 80% of the time. That's why I firmly believe that Inception is not a film about [SPOILER]a man trapped in the dreamscape architecture. He definitely makes the transition from reality to 'dream land' throughout the film.[SPOILER]

If the film had any notion of evidence to prove so, I'd call it "A MIND F***." But, as it stands, there is far more evidence to prove that it is "A MIND TRIP!"

I'm gonna quote myself because the post is the last on the previous page and I want my opinion to be seen by all who load the thread and get sent straight to the new page.

YES! It deserves THAT many awards in my eyes. It is THAT good of a film. I think that I may be on the verge of being able to say that it is my quintessential favourite film of all time. That is something that I have never been able to classify before. having seen MANY films, I've never been able to even list my top 20. Inception is on the verge of planting itself firmly and undeniably in the #1 spot. I need a 3rd viewing to be certain.

I thought it was a mind screw myself but you screwed up the code for spoiler.

No I didn't. I didn't reveal any detail about the film plot. Nor would having read my thoughts in that post prior to seeing the film myself change my experience of watching the film. So, I SPOILER'ed properly.

I've seen it twice so far and the second viewing was actually better then the first.

I said "closest thing to a perfect film that I will see in my lifetime." I didn't say that it was ABSOLUTELY perfect. And, I have explained in great detail already. Check back for all of my posts starting Thursday @ 3AM PST and read all of the spoilers for further details.

There is nothing wrong with it. The movie has
1. Great casting of characters
2. Engrossing Story
3. Wonderful Effects
4. A very unique story -- unlike anything you've seen before
5. It is just awesome
6. I gave it 5 stars

I'll edit my post, which you quoted. I've seen it twice as well. I'll need a 3rd viewing before I can officially say it deserves the definitive "Best Film I've Ever Seen" title... a title that I have never been able to give one specific film over the many I have experienced.

But they probably won't
It'll be on the bottom of the nomination list that will probably include stuff like:
Extraordinary Measures,
Brooklyn's Finest,
Remember Me,
Robin Hood,
Shutter Island
and
The Social Network

I can tell you, right now, that Inception and Shutter Island will not win. Brooklyn's finest probably won't, either.
It will be Robin Hood or The Social Network that win.
Just think of the kind of stuff that usually wins.
It won't happen until Nolan makes a romantic dramedy, historical biopic, super-topical political movie/issue movie, war movie about a war that hasn't been covered by hollywood in 10 years, or something that has Tom Cruise, Russel Crowe or Denzel Washington in it.
He'll be nominated year after year, but he won't win anything.

1. What is the use of a great cast when all the actors have one dimensional roles? A monkey could have played Levitt's role. He had nothing to do. Cotillard was just annoying.

2. Engrossing story ruined by a convoluted script. Dreams within dreams within dreams within dreams. Pretty cool yeah but I stopped caring midway about the guy who had to get back to his children.

3. No not really.
4. Paprika, Dreamscape and Dark City
5. I don't think it is.
6. Well, good for you. I am glad you enjoyed it so much

I always enjoy reading your exaggerated and overhyping posts. Honestly. It's nice to see someone really enjoy movies to the extent that you do. Your posts on Knight and Day re-inspired me to check out that film, although I am patiently awaiting a blind-buy.

I've never understood why people try to get people to change their opinion on a message board. You can give your opinion, and arguing about what you like and dislike about a movie is fine, but just remember that you will never change the other person's mind with a message board post.

It's sort of like trying to talk a fat kid out of his lunch money. That will NEVER happen.

That is true. I should have just stated why I think the movie is terrible.

I don't think any of the movies you listed will be nominated, even with the expanded 10-movie slots (with the exception of The Social Network perhaps). I see that you're probably not too fond of the Oscars though. I don't blame you.

I'll just tackle #1. Not all characters in every movie have to be fully realized three dimensional characters. Some of them can be used as tools for exposition or for getting from one place in the story to another. The only character that mattered was Cobb because the film was ALL about him. Was JGL's performance Award worthy? Of course not, there wasn't enough material for amazing acting. He just had to give a convincing performance and he did so. Subtle acting is the best acting in my book.

Have to agree. Although, I do hope the Social Network does get some nominations. I'm a huge David Fincher fan, so I like when he gets recognition from the Academy

#1. THE MOVIE ISN'T ABOUT MANY CHARACTERS!
[Show spoiler]IT IS ABOUT COBB!
That's the beauty of it. Why can't people see that? The cast did their jobs superfluessly. The only people that you are suppose to care about are
[Show spoiler]Cobb and maybe Ariandne a little bit since she draws herself into Cobb's personal drama.

#2. The script may be complex by design, by it is certainly not "convoluted." Understanding what Nolan was really trying to do with the film, on my second viewing I began to care exponentially more about Cobb as the story went along. I compare my level of connection with Cobb to the concept of time within the different dream levels.

#3. Yes... really.

#4. Those films all have interesting details that were incorporated into this one, yes. Those are all "pie pieces" without a pie chart to be placed on. But, Inception combines all of those elements to truly form a perfect pie chart while stepping beyond the categorization of the films that you mentioned.

#5. It is awesome when you can really understand it. FREE YOUR MIND!

It is terrible for its hyperbole of being claimed as the greatest movie of the decade.
