hahaha. He actually knows nothing about the film. He has only seen a trailer and it is impossible to know what the film is really about based on one trailer.

Don't bother printing them out. Petra is so dedicated to spreading the good word about this film, that if your friend doesn't like it, he will enter your friend's dreams, tomorrow night, and incept into their brain the idea that it's The Greatest Movie about Dream Architecture EVER MADE!!!

Or, my wisdom will travel on the wind (and by "wind" I mean other people's word of mouth who have been enlightened by my teachings) to fall upon their ears to enlighten them.

I feel like the Inception saviour! I'm spreading the word of the Nolan!

Default Well...

I have seen this film once and in my opinion it is an instant masterpiece and is easily one of the best films in recent history. It is a shame though because this film caused me to have a serious argument with a friend of mine.

My intention was to see this film in IMAX, well that didn't pan out when I came to the stunning conclusion that my closest IMAX (REAL BTW) (1 hour away) was not showing the film and in fact the nearest real IMAX to be showing the film was roughly at least 2+ hours away.

I told my friend it would make more sense for my nearest IMAX theater to show this film versus Eclipse (what they decided they would continue showing instead) because this film was framed in IMAX therefore IMAX would give you the best picture unlike Eclipse. We argued for hours on this subject and long story short: I hope that this film will garner much higher gross sales then Eclipse because that then would strongly support my idea that my nearest IMAX would have been better off to show this film instead of Eclipse.

Anyways, this film was amazing and I absolutely loved the ending. I definitely cannot wait until the Blu-Ray release. I suppose I shall go see this film again in theaters in the mean time.

Oh, maybe I could some how wake up from this dream and then about 16 hours later go pick up this film at a midnight launch. *I think I got the timing right,

Oh one last thought: Which does everyone think will do better when speaking strictly in terms of worldwide gross sales: Inception or Eclipse?

Wow... that was anti-climactic! You tell us that you had a serious arguement with a friend over the film and get us all excited for the insightful debate you two had about the content therein. Then you tell us that it was about which film, Eclipse or Inception, should have been showing on the IMAX screen? Tsk tsk...

As for your opinion? I love that you thought of it as a masterpiece, but let's go into the details WHY you thought so! Just remember to use SPOILER tags!

As for the worldwide box office question? I still think that the masses are asses enough to give more money to Eclipse. And, yes... that notion literally breaks my heart in terms of the value of TRUE ART.

True art isn't made to break box office records, it's made to share a vision or a story with audiences and do that job well. Inception accomplished that and whether or not another movie that was made for teenage girls does better money-wise won't change that.

Isn't that the usual release date for summer films

The Social Network
None of those films will be nominated bar the latter two (and even Shutter Island could lose out due to being released so early in the year)

Extraordinary Measures-Not glowing reviews, seems like the quality of a made for TV movie.
Brooklyn's Finest-Same again, not very glowing reviews
Remember Me-Did you hear about how this movie ended, godawful, reviews agree
Robin Hood-No Chance, this is also has very polarizing reviews.

Default Excuse me, :)

Apologies for my less than stellar post. For starters I agree, this film is about the truly ingenious art that it is. It wasn't made to break record sales it was meant to provoke thought and intrigue. My main issue was that my nearest IMAX is a part of a educational center that is all about science and art and I just thought even from a purely artistic/scientific perspective it would make more sense for my IMAX to show this film versus Eclipse. I cannot convince my friend of this, which is why I hope it has high sales, so I can convince him in other ways.

As for my views on the film, I would be delighted to go into detail as to why I cite it as a masterpiece.

[Show spoiler]Well for starters, , it goes without saying that Nolan is a brilliant director, and although his films may not be perfect we can safely say that they aren't crap. Secondly, the acting is what really helped this film be as great as it is. For me I never really had the chance to see some of Leo's more recent films like the Departed or Shutter Island. I've only been familiar with his work in Titanic. In addition, I've only ever recognized Ellen Page from the Cisco commercials and her work in Juno. As for the rest they were all pretty much new to me.

Never did the acting feel out of place or over the top or even as if one character was trying to steal the show. Everyone had a part and they played it beautifully.

Of course however, we know that acting alone isn't enough to make a good movie. You need a great story line driven by emotion and that is exactly what this film gave us. I was just absolutely fascinated with the storyline and how it kept getting deeper and deeper with each passing moment. Albeit not to perfection, but I did enjoy the fact that this movie even had some basis on a real world concept (Lucid Dreaming). This movie didn't just give me a good story it gave me something to think about. I mean I still can't stop sharing the following line with others: "You never remember the beginning of a dream."

This film is unlike many I've seen. A lot of films will give you the premise (I.e. criminals on the loose or there's a murderer abound, etc.) and usually you can kind of guess how it will turn out (I.e. the criminals are caught, etc.), but this film although I knew the premise early on: Inception at no point was I thinking oh this is what will happen next. You understand.

Going back to the acting, sort of, the emotion behind the acting was pure brilliance. It was what really sealed this movie. You didn't have lots of "Micheal Bay Explosions" to drive the action. You had genuine, believable emotion. Again only really knowing Leo from his earlier works (like Titanic) I wasn't 100% sure what to expect.

What really did it for me was when it was realized that everyone would have to jump from one dream layer to another, via a "kick", in order to come back to reality, all I could do was wondering how this would be pulled off. Brilliantly so I should say.

Shall I proclaim this movie undeniably perfect and free of any flaws? No, but not since the likes of the Matrix and Nolan's early work or I'll even go more recent and say the Dark Knight (but those are about the only few I can think of) has a movie like this felt just so right. Usually after seeing something I like I tend to get a little defensive against all the naysayers, but with this movie I could let my guard down just a bit, because I've yet to read any valid criticisms against this film. Sure some may have said this film cold or that Nolan as a person is cold, but comments like these just seem a bit unfounded. Negativity is inevitable but sometimes it just doesn't feel genuine. To me it just seems some of these critics who negatively rate the film should give it a second viewing. I mean who knows maybe they had distractions during their first viewing or something.

To me this film easily has one of the most original screenplays I've seen in recent history and I feel there is no reason that this film shouldn't be nominated for awards like best Screenplay, directing, acting, etc. I only hope this film isn't snubbed unlike the Dark Knight was, but with the increased nominees list from 5 to 10 at the Oscar I do not think I need to worry.

In closing, All I got to say is that Nolan definitely created a mind-blowing and ingenious masterpiece with an ending that will leave you thinking for days. This movie offers genuine emotion and intense action, with moments that blow your mind. That and his usage of very little CGI really helps add to the overall believability that a movie like this could be real. In short:

That wraps that up, and again I apologize for my anti-climatic last post,

The ones I highlighted are dead certain, but I think it could grab all of those, I was going to highlight Director, but if it isn't in the Best Pic category then there's no chance it'll get Director. And I'm not overly certain whether this will get shafted or not.

Petra,

Whether it wins or not is almost irrelevant. Like 2008, I'm willing to be that Nolan's film will be the most talked about when we get to the end of the year.

For me, the year is utterly over. That doesn't mean I won't see everything that looks intriguing to me, but I know in my heart of hearts, Inception won't fall from my top spot this year.

I have two interpretations on the film, one more mind blowing than the other but both mind blowing nevertheless.

It's a masterpiece. Pure and simple masterpiece.

I see what you mean. I just dislike the crowded theater, I sort of like being in a very empty theater when watching a movie. I am so anti-social

Just my opinion:
I believe it will nominated for these categories. The movie was good, but it didn't wow me. The storyline was very easy to follow, I don't understand how some people are saying, " I want my brain back." Don't get me wrong it's good but not great as everyone is saying it is. It's trying to be more than what it truly is, and forceful due to Nolans part. 3.5/5 maybe a 4/5

I can see if getting nominated for everything but the Actor and Supporting Actress. The characters weren't profound enough to get a nomination.

I think Inception will get those nominations. The Academy isn't really a fan of Nolan I have noticed. So, I doubt he will get the nomination for Best Director/Best Pic. He surely deserves one but it sadly wont happen.
