Very true. There is no way this movie will fail or flop. It is going to do very well.

I typically only go into domestic unless something extraordinary is happening in other markets. Domestic is where the studios and the media tend to judge whether a movie is successful enough.

EX: The Golden Compass turned a very respectable profit overseas, but there will never be a sequel.

Inception has almost 40,000 votes, thats 20,000 more than when it originally was placed number 3. I think its gonna end up number 5 of all time.

According to IMDB

It'll fall over time, TDK was like #2 wasn't it?

Its fallen down.

The movie is getting a lot of love just like TDK and Avatar did.

Which means, just like those, in a few months they'll be the backlash at it probably and people will give it 1's on IMDB.

IMDB's list is irrelevant...as is any other list to me. I look at those sorts of things but if I don't agree with them it isn't the end of the world, I don't care what other people think about a movie. If I like it, I like it. If I don't, I don't

I think IMDB is as good as it gets. You getting a good ideal if the movie is good or not. No movie in the top 250 is a bad movie IMO. It might not be my favorite but its surely good.

On another not its sadly true(People rating it a 1 just to bring the score down). But i think it will end up in the top 10, Haters cant out number fans, look at TDK its still no 12 with all the hate, but it will always be number 2 in my Library. Until another flick can out do it.

its not a flop...this movie wasnt a sequel, reboot, or based on a comic or novel, but a fresh new movie.

i do believe that means its judged differently. but someone can correct me if i am wrong

well i guess Avatar would fit into that i think..so i dunno..

but i am still going to see it a 3rd time! haha

It could be still be considered a flop if it doesn't make a profit at the box office. While that doesn't seem likely given the generally positive reactions from those who have seen it, the US economy still hasn't made a full recovery, so some people are still picky when it comes to spending their entertainment dollars, and there is still competition from summer movies that haven't been released yet.

I saw Inception yesterday afternoon.

I thought it was OK. I liked it, but thats about as far as I can go.

Technically perfect and the entire cast was fantastic.

It wasnt TOO complicated. However, it felt like it was told in a complicated fashion for the sake of being complcated, not because the story itself was complicated. Some films are interesting because the story complicated. Inception took a simple story and complicated it in an effort to make it interesting. That didnt work for me. I never felt sucked in.

Also, I felt like the teams actions were over explained a little bit, which left me less curious and intrigued. I knew too much, too soon, too easily.

Beautiful to look at, fast paced, well acted, incredible score (Zimmer ), nicely shot and edited action scenes, but just Meh overall.

3/5

This is a good way to put it, and I agree whole-heartily. The story itself is interesting and actually quite simple. However, it's being told in a very tedious and complex (if not overly complicated) way that I didn't find all that interesting to a huge degree (again, I was twiddling my thumbs during the second half). Look to the other Sci-Fi greats that require you to think (2001, Total Recall, Blade Runner, Dark City, A Clockwork Orange, THX-1138, etc). These movies weren't just trying to be filmed to be confusing for the sake of being confusing, but a way that is sufficient enough for the audience to get the intentions of the plot and still allows for the action to help drive emotion. In other words, these films weren't trying to keep the audience thinking for the sake of thinking. It gave the ideas that it needed to give, and left everything else for the audience interpretation.

I'm very grateful for your post, because I think it helped find the words that I was trying to say for it. I like to think in a movie, but I don't like to think for the sake of thinking in a movie.....for 2.5 hours over and over again......without any real resolution or full attachment to any character. After the movie, I had to sit in a vehicle with 4 friends and how they kept talking about what "this meant", and "what that meant". Honestly, I didn't say a word, because I was just tired of the movie by then, if not very interested anymore in it. I also felt that the movie's plot and intentions were MUCH too simple to sit around and chat about it any longer than needed. You could say the same thing about 2001 (this movie is all about thinking with very little action), but after viewing it, you could easily tell that it wasn't made that way intentionally. Besides, 2001 came out in 1968 and audiences have seen nothing like this....and even the space scenery is flat out jaw dropping..even to this day. I'm not trying to ignorantly compare 2001 to Inception, but I'm just stating that 2001 wasn't complex for the sake of being complex. It was complex because it was trying to convey the meaning of life, not just the meaning of Inception. One of them I found a huge interest in, while the other I find some interest in.

To reitterate, the film is great and it's technically amazing, and I think it's somewhat of an epic contemporary science fiction movie. I don't think it has a chance with the others though, atleast with me. Maybe it's time for the new generation audience to look back at the greats now that they have seen a movie that actually encourages you to think, rather than 99% of the movies that they see now which are cash cows made for the pea-sized brain.

I don't think you likely pay a lot of attention to box office patterns. I realize we're only 3 days into the release, but Inception didn't lose any business between Friday (traditionally a front loaded day for genre pictures) and Saturday, and a negligible amount of business between Saturday and Sunday. This reveals that word of mouth is largely positive and strong. That it brought in another $10m on Monday is just further indication of that staying power.

A film with a quick dropoff is going to suffer sharp declines on Sunday, if not on Saturday - it's just the way it works.

On a completely personal note - one of the folks I recommended the movie to on Monday told me I was the 3rd person to tell him he must see the movie with a quickness.

Agreeing with you on this, and you worded it much better than I could have. I rated it a 4 because I'd like to see it again, however I'm waiting till it comes to home video.

Did anyone else think the
[Show spoiler]3rd level of dreams (snow world)
reminded them of the first level of Metal Gear Solid for the Playstation? Makes me want a Metal Gear movie... Buttt they'd ruin it so it's better left alone.

Saw the movie twice. I might even go a third time. 5/5 for me.

Best mind-blowing movie for me since The Matrix. All about story, not emotional attachment to characters.

Some say the story was told in a complicated way and could have been simpler. I couldn't disagree more. It would have made the movie boring. The complexity makes you think and be engaged, which is what makes this movie great.

After you see the movie you'll understand why it took 10 years to write.

I hope it gets nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay.

Ethan
