This is really confusing. I thought that HDMI 2.0 would equal 18 Gbps with the expanded color space and HDCP 2.2 capabilities. Now, it seems that this HDMI specification effectively means nothing. Even the AVR's data sheets don't mention enough specifics to figure out what transfer rate the HDMI interface is capable of.

Folks should be aware the Onkyo devices have only ONE HDCP 2.2 HDMI input therefore it can not be used as a HDCP 2.2 HDMI 2 switcher.

It appears other upcoming Atmos devices will have HDMI 2.0 (18 Mbps) but no HDCP 2.2 so I will wait and see on this one.

In regards to the last post, I should have typed chroma resolution rather than colorspace. That sort of mistake makes me worry about (my) intellect in regards to the possibility of early-onset (people in their 40s and 50s) Alzheimer's…must check out these new screening tests - http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/...eimers-n154971

Peter’s Triumph would be disappointed , as one can see in the Introduction of EBU’s Policy Statement on UHD (https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/techreports/tr028.pdf)

acronyms for higher image frame rate (HFR), higher image dynamic range (HDR), wider colour gamut (WCG) are assigned but when it comes to advanced sound system…one gets no (ASS) designation.

At least this article provides acronym equality to all parameters of UHD phase 2 - http://www.psneurope.com/advanced-so...-phase-1-spec/

Surely everybody loves the prospect of getting some new ASS?

And you've gotta give props to the Japanese. While our content providers and manufacturers are busy arguing amongst themselves about the 4K specs, our Nippon friends have already got 8K up and running. It's remarkable, and 'twas ever thus, what with the Hi-Vision laserdiscs providing them with HD software 20 years ago, back when Blu-ray was but a twinkle in Mr Sony's eye.

The Japanese always push the envelope which is why I have such respect for their engineers. I used to drive a Mercury (Ford) and it broke down a lot, now I drive a 10 year old Lexus and it's a great car with high reliability, as well as a quiet, smooth ride. On the TV side, they are now giving us ASS and 8K video to boot. Well done!

As great as that 4K World Cup video download was, I would be willing to fly to Japan to see a game in 8K as my curiousity is sky high about that technology. I am assuming that 8K consumer displays aren't coming soon, but as that WC clip shows, running 4K sourced material on a 1080p display is a noted improvement over native 1080p content so you'd get a nice uptick in PQ viewing 8K content on a 4K display at home.

You're comparing a Mercury to a Lexus?

That's like comparing a low end LG to a Sony XBR.

In terms of reliability, yes. A Toyota Camry is also far more reliable than Mercury vehicles, and the Camry and the Lexus ES300 have identical reliability scores which is not shocking as they share the same engine and frame.

“There are a number of ways of achieving the ASS”….http://www.psneurope.com/advanced-so...-phase-1-spec/

From my bachelor days, quickly...I recall two guaranteed methods:

1. Play guitar in a band
2. Buy yourself a motorsickle, like so - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...le#post9395913 and ride it around town.

Hi everyone. What free software are you using to play 4K TS/HEVC files?

I notice all the regular players that play 4K mp3, quicktime, etc do NOT work with the HEVC TS files

On a non-ASS related note, I may be able to get hold of the 30 minutes of extra time from the WC final in 4K @ 60p, then all I'll need is something that, y'know, can actually play it!

That would be awesome! Can't you just use a HDMI output on your computer to play it back on your TV? I suppose you'd have to somehow drop frames to get it to play at 30p (or 25p) first, though.

He can't do that unless his TV is 4K or else it won't accept the video signal

I use my 27 inch computer screen to play 4K files in 2560 x 1440 and they look great

That's alright, people make mistakes all the time.

I'm probably going to wait this one out and build me a dedicated separate Atmos A/V system , that means separate AMPS and processor with the full HDMI 2.0 spec and HDCP 2.2 capabilities.

I'm going to need separates anyways if I'm going to use more then 11 speakers!

He has an HDMI 1.4 4K TV. That allows for 4K/30 playback, whereas the match footage is 4K/60.

Free is not my forte, so anyone feel free to correct, but for the sake of the lack of responses to your question, try a new version of the VLC…https://forum.videolan.org/viewforum...5171820f5f2d2c
