Nice summary review regarding UHD video standards moving forward with particular emphasis on B.T.2020, which we have been discussing in the 4K Movie Releases thread on-and-off in a piecemeal fashion for about the year….as well as some of the original research regarding field of view and angular resolution relating to pixel count which came out of NHK ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...hk#post5922985 )

which ultimately served as a basis to derive some of the parameters of B.T.2020, which you talk about in your piece.

Anyway, on a more esoteric technological note, in the signal format parameters of the ITU-R B.T. 2020 recommendation, there are both non-constant and constant luminance methods specified.

The back-story behind that is that constant luminance and non-constant luminance methods caused BIG debate among the engineers/scientists.

Ultimately, both were included as can be seen in the online pdf document. The actual discussion on the luminance and color difference equations took the longest time to iron out compared to that of all of the other parameters specified.

On a mutual geographical personal note, the only reason why I ‘knew’ about FGCU was that we routinely fly into Ft. Meyers Airport as we still keep a place on the water in Naples (Port Royal) .

But to have knocked off Georgetown…who would’ve thunk or speculated that.

I live about a dozen miles from the FGCU campus. As you probably already know, it's actually the largest college in the Ft. Myers/Naples area and the fastest growing in Florida over the past decade. I previously lived in the DC area so I'm also very familar with Georgetown and Big East Basketball.

My wife and I were married in Dahlgren Chapel.

Sis is GT undergrad and GT Law.

My old man lives about fifteen minutes north of Bonita Springs having left Cayman a couple years ago, some killer food in that area if you love Mexican and Cuban cuisine. "Taco Mix" on Bonita Springs Boulevard was most impressive.

Some nice restaurants in Naples too, we went to the Dock/Crayton Cove last time we were there. Will hopefully return for another visit next February as it's quite a bit cheaper than visiting Cayman, although I do prefer the latter as my brother is still there and many childhood friends.

it was only a x min long in japanese,a woman dressed in silk all made up,the whole picture was mindboggling and i aint exagerating as annyone else that seen 4K(native!)will testify.
there was no strain on the eyes and could have come closer to the screen i'm sure of it.
You can bet it was shot specifically to show off 4K. I doubt that most '4K' content will look significantly better than most HD content.

Well, they have come down a bit in price. There is already one from tigerdirect.com for $1299.99. I remember in 1998 when a very low contrast 720p Pioneer plasma went for 25k. Owing a flat screen TV was just a pipe dream back then.

Default Next Generation Blu-ray Standard Progress

CNET has received a statement from the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) that in part says:
"As part of its ongoing responsibility to maintain Blu-ray Disc as the premium platform for watching movies and other content at home, the BDA established a task force last year to study a range of possible format extensions, including those that potentially enable 4K content playback on Blu-ray.

Through the first quarter of this year, the task force solicited and received numerous proposals, and is now evaluating the various technologies.

The task force, which is comprised of representatives from BDA member studios, consumer electronics manufacturers and media technology companies, looks forward to sharing with and receiving input from content creators, and is expected to make specification and technology recommendations to the Blu-ray Disc Association board of directors later this year"
