Going through their 2013 catalog (the booklet they include in some DVDs/BDs) I realized there isn't a whole lot of it that interests me, with a good chunk of it foreign exploitation (not my cup of tea). Come on Synapse, more slashers please.
I agree with this. Although I generally love Synapse's euro releases, I was always disappointed that a company never did a "slasher" collection.

Straight-up slashers are my favorite subgenre and I'd buy every single thing released if a quality label like Synapse were do to them.

Curtains and Prom Night are a great start (as well as their great Dorm that Dripped Blood release) and if they sell well, it'll hopefully inspire more of them.

I love Slashers, but the euro movies are classic essientials. I approve of any and all horror making the leap to blu.

Unfortunately, Don and co. probably won't do any more Italian gothics which is my personal favorite part of euro horror. They did an excellent DVD of Antonio Margheriti's Castle of Blood (Danza Macabre) which supposedly only sold a couple of hundred copies and was extensively pirated on a certain genre-releated torrent shortly after the release.

Gialli appear to sell much better than gothic horror. It makes me a bit sad because there are so many great Italian gothics waiting to be (re-)discovered outside the Bavas.

I got one of those couple hundred. I am with you though, there are a lot of great gothic horror's that need to be tapped into. Raro has The Long Hair of Death coming though, so at least we have that to look forward to.

I saw on the Synapse Facebook page today that they would love to license The Final Terror and Alice Sweet Alice, if they could find the rights holders

I didn't ask about those when I met Jerry at Synapse's booth at FandomFest, although I did learn that we can definitively cross out Vincent Pereira's A Better Place for a Blu-Ray upgrade. A combination of them being unable to renew the rights, along with low sales (he had nothing but wonderful things to say about Vincent, however).

I couldn't find any references to either of these films on their page. I'd love for Synapse to release these. Alice Sweet Alice is probably the easiest to track down - the director, Alfred Sole, is the rights holder. The film is in dire need of a makeover and deserves one. I think it would become a top seller for whoever decides to reissue it properly. Final Terror, OTOH, I understand that the rights owner wants a lot of money for it. This is what I keep hearing on various forums, anyway. If there's any truth to this it would mean the producer, not a studio (Lionsgate?) has the rights.

Hi everyone, Jerry here from Synapse. I do not remember having this conversation with this person who posted here about A Better Place. So, I want to set the record straight. While Indys in general do not sell well, A Better Place was our best selling Indy, and we have done lots of them. Furthermore, we are in discussions right now to acquire the BluRay rights to this film. No guarantees, but if we are successful, we will announce it on our website.

Hello and welcome to the forum, Jerry. We hope to see more of your input as time goes on. What can you tell us about the possibility of Synapse releasing more 80's slasher films on Blu-ray? There's tons of them still MIA and lots of folks truly enjoy them, good or bad

Has Don or anyone mentioned a ballpark figure for when we can expect Prom Night and Curtains?

Also curious as to whether they will be steelbooks or not.

In all honesty, I'd rather get them in standard cases as opposed to steelbook. Demons / Demons 2 feel steelbook-y, but not two classic 80s Slashers.

And I don't think they will be, as Don stated on FB that Prom Night would feature the original poster art, and the art for Curtains that's official is clearly in an amaray case.

Thumbs up

The pictures and vid sample of Curtains that Synapse has shared on Facebook look simply sensational, so looking forward to this release.

Same goes for Prom Night, talk about wise selection from Synapse, that is how you get it done!

Wow, the people who contributed to the Kickstarter campaign really got screwed on this one.

It was just a comment in response to fan wants. It was in the post with the picture of the Curtains killer. Down in the comments section some people asked about the movies, and they said they would like to do them if someone would lead them in direction of the rights holders. Here is the post,

"Synapse Films We'd love to do THE FINAL TERROR and ALICE SWEET ALICE. Someone just needs to steer us in the direction of the rights holders".
