What's this I'm hearing about THE KINDRED (1987) coming out this year? Is that rumor or does someone have some proof, like, did they talk to Don and he specifically say it's coming out this year?

A bunch of them (Coffin Joe films) played on IFC HD and a few looked surprisingly good considering that channel has a very compressed bit rate. At Midnight and This Night looked pretty good, At Midnight looked much better than the upconverted dvd.

I find it odd that a genre/boutique/indie label would be deterred by entirely by perceived sales. Given the niche market for many of these titles I'd be curious about the cost/benefit analysis companies like Synapse Films make to determine high definition upgrades. Many of the titles Synapse Films put out are risky at best but one thing that stands out is their commitment to quality/artistry in horror and cult titles.

I wouldn’t rule out a title from Synapse Films release just because there is a perception it won’t be popular. There is obviously part of the equation that goes into business decisions beyond just expected sales. Maybe cost to acquire the film is part of it or shape the master is in to begin with.

I don’t imagine that anyone thought the The Dorm That Dripped Blood (aka Pranks), a student film, or Life and Death of a Porno Gang, an explicit/strong foreign film with lower production values, would sell like hot cakes but they're on blu-ray under Synapse Films. The Image is a great erotic thriller but also not one that likely had commercial demand to justify the good high definition release. Titles like Demons, Tenebre, etc are obviously higher tier classics but Document of the Dead (itself limited to web exclusive) got high definition treatment too.

i own a few synapse titles on blu and enjoy them all. in fact i just bought inturder this past week and had fun with it. it was by no means a classic but it was certainly good enough for a tuesday afternoon. i would be extremly happy if synapse really does have evilspeak. whoever releases evilspeak would get up to 25 of my hard earned dollars. i would really like a braindamage on blu too and i thought that putting frankenhooker on blu instead braindamage was mistake. braindamage is the superior film. i understand the reasoning behind it but i wish it had ben the other way around.

As would I. I asked Synapse about it last week:

I agree; a year or two couldn't come soon enough.

Long Weekend looked amazing on the transfer for DVD. I can only imagine how good a HD transfer would be. A pity, easily one of the best films Synapse
ever released.

Do you mean the 82 minute US print? Or the 110 minute "Export" version as is on the Anchor Bay DVD?

Not much news to report, although Director William Malone is looking for a company to release his 1985 film Creature. I would love for Synapse to pick this one up! And since apparently the discs are already made up with extra and what not it wouldn't cost them too much.

There are at least 3 cuts of Phenomena: 116 Minutes, 110 Minutes and 82 Minutes (that's the Creepers cut).

I guess that just means there are multiple fans hankering for the longest cut out there, in one form or another.

I'm looking forward to Countess Dracula and Demons, both which will be blind buys.

Any word on The House That Dripped Blood...?
