![]() For Easter, we’re having sort of a family reunion so I’ll be dusting off thee old Kodak slide projector and showing (pending it still functions) some old pictures on a screen that my Dad took of us during childhood. I think there must be some color transparencies of our beloved best friend in the batch because I know Dad loved taking pictures of us in the snow at winter. If I get a chance I’ll take a pic of a respective projected slide. Quality will be poor of course, but at least it will serve the purpose. Quote:
The closer a color representation mimics the human visual system, the simpler and better the color difference metric can be. Despite being commonly used for display calibration today, dE2000 (ΔEoo) was not designed for use with emissive colors. In fact, the CIE does not recommended dE2000 for use on light-emitting or specularly-reflecting color stimuli - https://www.iso.org/standard/63731.html . So, as a groundskeeper might say, the new ΔICtCp approach (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...n#post14742977 ) ‘has that going for it too’. Last edited by Penton-Man; 03-24-2018 at 08:48 PM. If everything is in sync and all the standards applied correctly...4K TV, 4K PJ, BR 4K player, BR 4K disc, 4K streaming, HDMI 4K cables, ... all properly implemented, set and calibrated, 3D Blu-ray immersive experience works splendidly. ...And HDR too ... Dolby Vision/Atmos.
Chance/percentage of this happening...I'd say 50/50...just an estimated guess, a personal opinion from extensive readings @ audio/video dealers of the Internet, and with all their fans...the owners with less than perfect setups, and the hard core addicts with perfect setups. Everything else about HDR is simply cheap whiskey on the rocks. And when it works it rocks. What a beautiful Saturday afternoon on this lovely spring season. Everything looks . . . HDR natural splendor with the new colors and sky and clouds and sun and ducks and whales and flowers and mountains and awesome contrast with the beautiful looking girls walking in the park with their pets and playing and running and suntanning and smiling. Nothing is more beautiful and peaceful than the outdoors on this lovely Saturday afternoon. If HDR can look just like that we wouldn't need Dolby Vision and pizza slices. Well, it's a figure of speech, I know for certain that you deciphered it. Back to my running now; I saw that beautiful blonde sitting on the bench in the park under an oak tree; I have a peanut butter/jelly/banana sandwich in my lunch box...I'm going to ask her if she would like half of it with my Pepsi.... |

respectively, i disagree :: i perceive it as '''eyes'''
the "actual reality" is - - - 'many variables' (unrecognized) - - - display/player - - - content/grading/mastering - - - settings of display/player - - - (intentionally leaving out - "psychology and sociology" and 'plants') the "actual reality" is - - - it's 'impossible' for HDR10 grading/mastering to be 'better than' Dolby Vision - - - "what's fair is fair", and it's not worthy of debate Dolby Vision is 'clearly' the "premium HDR" and always has been, regardless any 'early stages' issues (firmware/content) HDR10 is 'clearly inferior' (flawed) and shall forever be so (having a fixed luminance level throughout the 'high dynamic range' is not either subjective or debatable, and never will be otherwise) the only real issue is that given many variables in play, and that displays/players have not had Dolby Vision performance widely available, nor many titles to date, that the exchanges are based mostly on 'words' rather than substance (and :: i am just getting started) Last edited by jibucha; 04-01-2018 at 02:29 AM. |

respectively :: HDR10 is 'inherently' flawed and incomplete (compared to the many other elements that Dolby Vision entails)
in reality, it has little to do with biases and mapping issues (neither accurate or fair account) Quote:

I work on our 2018 TV Shootout every day and it's coming along very well. Lots of very cool surprises for this year. I'm trying to get a courtesy insider tip from my friends at Sony on any of the additional rumored mid year "F" series TVs planned so I can set our TV Shootout date. I've also been very active with all of the new 2018 TVs that we've been lucky to get the 1st allocations on. We are the 1st USA retailer to get LG's new C8 OLED TV. Here's my BD.com post on our 1st impressions. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 03-25-2018 at 01:28 AM. |

Uh-huh. As I keep saying, if Dolby Vision proves to be that bit better on my ZD9 then I won't be shy about it, I'll shout about it from the rooftops. If it ain't, well, life goes on. The world continues to turn and I'll keep enjoying HDR in all its guises.

Do you guys have to alter your tv display settings when viewing HDR/DV content. I notice fed my regular tv viewing setting are too dark for when I watch I 4k Disc and have to mess with my picture settings to brighten it up.
I’m currently using a Philips 7502 and a Vizio p65-E1. |

I like the production design (brick and mortar in frame, right), as we don’t have many of those type audio video stores around these days….shows success ![]() |
