Get on the pitch here and now, for Football/soccer will be the initial primary catalyst for implementation of the next advanced ingredient of UHD tv…. namely, HFR, for although intriguing, I think HFR motion pictures ( http://variety.com/2015/film/news/ga...ma-1201447980/ )…….not so much.

The postings are all connected . One just has to think *out of the box*.

And motorcyclin <- one of many accurate cutting edge tidbits of 4K insider information which will/can not be found by Googling websites and such….at least definitely not at the time/date that post was made.

Come Sunday, after rolling dem eggs , we’ll be rollin dem wheels at Gorman and hopefully not crashing like this guy -

And following that, we’ll gather round thee ol’ 4K boob tube to watch the North-East derby to root for Sunderland, which I plan on recording since someone has kindly given me the heads-up to. Geoff, or mike, I'm counting on you guys for a heads-up to the next El Clasico!

Good man. We need all the best wishes we can get!
The game is a 4pm kick off. That is crazy in my opinion. Plenty of time for boozed up fans to cause trouble. Will need to keep the sisters safe lol.

I would have typed the Wear and Tyne...or Tyne and Wear derby but, didn't really know which was proper in your 4K neck of the woods.

Not me mike, but thanks for reminding me that Interstellar has made its way into our homes, be it by streaming or Blu-ray. We (Geoff et al.) had discussed the camera work (as appeared in the theatrical presentations) and the sound (esp. dialog) for a couple pages last November and it should be interesting to see how the home media iteration compares to the theatrical presentations that some here attended and were unsatisfied with.

I dislike nearly everything about it, but know people like it and there is a chance to watch it at 4k

Geoff, anyone? are the focus 'issues' that were present during the non-70mm. presentations still present in the Blu-ray version, e.g. hospital scene, etc.?

Some of the non-imax scenes do seem a little soft, but I believe that's intentional. A stunning film and excellent video/audio presentation on the Blu-ray.

Not just the "non-70mm" versions Penton, the 15/70 edition had the same issues with focus. What was soft then is soft now, and, as I said at the time, the detail that is there fair shines through as some of the 35mm shots look fantastic. I had zero problems with understanding the dialogue either, but the same complaints that dogged the theatrical version have followed it home.

Honestly, I thought the dialog in the hospital scene and some other critical spots had much better clarity on the home release. Memory serves me the issue theatrically was that some lines seemed "buried" by other sound effects and music. Watched it last night, and definitely less so on the home release. I think they may have tweaked the mix... OR B, my home theater sound system has better vocal intelligibility than my nearest 15/perf 70mm IMAX theater. Neither would surprise me.

Thanks for the quick input…and to Flatnote and jono too. So, Geoff , or anyone? have you compared Interstellar to Inception?….as I don’t recall being turned off by any focus issues with Inception.

I'd say that in terms of the encodes themselves, Interstellar resolves slightly more detail because it hasn't got the typical Warners filtering, but it can't of course do anything about shots that are hobbled at source level, unlike Inception which didn't seem to have any noticeable focus issues as shot. Inception beats it hands down for black levels though, as Interstellar looks pretty thin at times which I also noticed during the 15/70 presentation: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=561, but it looks even thinner now than it did then.

About Interstellar...

I made this comparison between the Blu-ray and the DVD and it's interesting because you can see this:

1) Different aspect ratio of the IMAX scenes (fixed 2.40:1 aspect ratio vs 16:9)
2) IMAX Scenes on Blu-ray come from the OCN (8K scan), DVD uses an IP as source. The color correction is different...
3) 35mm scenes seem to use the same source, so I think the source is a 35mm IP like all previous Nolan’s Blu-rays. 4K or 6K scan doesn’t make any difference because a 35mm IP doesn’t even reach those resolutions....

Does the 4K Ultraflix version have fixed AR or variable? I know other VOD services use the fixed AR version so the same sources of DVD....

I love how the movie looks in fixed widescreen, like that last shot of Brand. It's a shame the only way to get it on disc is the DVD.
